December is probably our favourite month to encourage visitors to Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. There is so much to enjoy, from the perfect weather to Eid al Etihad (National Day) and Christmas festivities around town – though it is also one of the most expensive and crowded times to visit.

Dubai Weather in December

If it’s the scorching heat of the summer months that has ever put you off visiting Dubai, get set for the wonderfully mild days of December and the winter months in Dubai.

December’s average temperature is around 26°C/78.8°F, and the average sea temperature is around the same, 25.6°C/78°F. By month’s end, it can even be a little too nippy for ocean swimming—ensure your resort or hotel has a temperature-controlled pool!

The minimum temperature you can expect overnight in Dubai in December is 15°C/59°F. You won’t need much more in the city than a light jacket. Though note, if you are heading to the desert or the mountains overnight on a camping or glamping trip, it could be several degrees cooler; you’ll want a warmer layer of clothing.

With an average of 8 hours of sunshine, you should expect mostly blue skies, though rain and fog are not unheard of in the winter season. Use the cooler weather to get out there and enjoy the natural wonders that surround Dubai.

Dubai Special Events December 2026

Cultural Events & Special Occasions

Commemoration Day is 1 December, in honour of those soldiers who served their country and lost their lives for the United Arab Emirates. Previously called Martyrs Day, this day of national importance and reflection has been moved to coincide with the National Day holidays. (It is not always a Public Holiday, but events will be held around the country.)
National Day (Eid al Etihad) traditionally 2 & 3 December, 2025 will mark 54 years since the unification of the United Arab Emirates; previously called National Day, the event was briefly renamed to Union Day, and it seems they have now settled on Arabic name Eid Al Etihad – meaning ‘Celebration of the Union’. Due to the 2nd and 3rd falling midweek, the public holiday has been moved to the 1st and 2nd December for 2025. You will find 54th Anniversary Eid Al Etihad events across the city.
Christmas Festivities – a great lineup of events is still expected across the city, from winter markets and Christmas trees, to opera shows, kids’ sing-along events and, of course, Christmas Day brunches and takeaway meals. New Year’s Eve – 31 December always sees spectacular fireworks that light up many of the city’s famous buildings. Crowds can be manic, and hotel costs in prime locations are sky-high, so book well in advance to enjoy this one! Live Events in Dubai This December

The queen of Arabic pop, Nancy Ajram will perform live at the Atlantis Dubai Festival on 5 December. She will be joined by Arabic singing sensation Adam ensuring an unforgettable night of music for those lucky enough to attend.
Korean star Peggy Gou will be bringing her unique mix of vocals and beats to Pacha Icons at Five Luxe on 6 December.
December 7 brings The Festive Concert to Dubai Opera’s main auditorium, featuring the National Youth Orchestra and National Youth Choir of Dubai, this promises to provide a wonderful start to the festive season.
Renowned Palestinian composer and pianist, Faraj Suleiman, will take to the stage at the Dubai Opera on 8 December.
Fans of Japanese culture shouldn’t miss the Japan Culture Convention, which provides an opportunity to learn about Japanese traditions and contemporary culture through immersive workshops and performances. 12-14 December, at Burj Park.
For something a bit different, why not head aboard the QE2 for a murder mystery dinner on 13 December!
Don’t miss the festive ballet The Nutcracker at Dubai Opera between 18 and 21 December. Tickets are selling fast, so be sure to book early!
Franz Ferdinand will make a return to Dubai on 13 December, followed by Pitbull on 14 December. CocaCola Arena
Once Upon a Time in Dubai:The Musical is Dubai’s first musical, born and raised in the city! With amazing choreography and an original soundtrack, catch this debut show from 20 December through 11 January 2026 – The Agenda, Media City
From 20-24 December there will be Carols by Candlelight with the Firdaus Orchestra at the Al Wasl Dome in Expo City.
Experience an Irish Christmas with Emerald Isle – Irish Dance Reborn at the Zabeel Theatre from 21-23 December.

Suggested Dubai Activities in December 2026

Given the mild sunny days, it’s a perfect time of year to do some of Dubai’s more physical outdoor activities. Our top picks for things to do in Dubai in December are:

Take on the Ras al Khaimah zipline course – Jebel Jais Flight! Not only the longest zipline in the world, where speeds can reach up to 160kms an hour, but also Jebel Jais Tour – seven different zipline courses that meet on a suspended platform in the Hajar Mountains.

Top tip: If you don’t fancy the self-drive up to Ras al Khaimah, check out this tour which can pick you up from your Dubai hotel. It includes transfers to Jebel Jais and the zipline experience.

Take a tour around the world at Dubai’s Global Village – an international fair-style event held nightly; you’ll find seasonal celebrations, including Union Day and Christmas, marked with stage shows and fireworks.

This is the perfect time of year to experience Dubai Garden Glow & Dinosaur Park in Zabeel Park. An evening wonderland, the festive season makes it all the more magical.

Take a tour of the UAE’s east coast. Cross the spectacular Hajar Mountains and experience the calm, warm waters of the Gulf of Oman. There are snorkelling opportunities, as well as boat tours that can take you in amongst the spectacular khors of Musandam, Oman, without needing to cross the land border. Check out this east coast Fujairah day trip, or you can hire your own car and set your own pace.

For something unique this December, head to the Sharjah exclave of Kalba on the east coast for the weekend of 14-15 December for the inaugural Adventure Festival on 14-15 December for 2 days to partake in a huge range of outdoor and nature-filled adventures. All activities are included in your entry, with the opportunity to participate in water sports, hiking, mountain biking, yoga sessions, and outdoor survival skills sessions.

Take a Desert Safari – the cooler weather makes it the perfect time to get out on a dune-bashing adventure, or if you’d prefer a more sedate way to enjoy the desert, with an eco-friendly focus, take a journey to the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.

Visit Hatta. Hatta can be found to the south of Dubai, near the Oman border, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Downtown Dubai. Enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding, or try the tandem water bikes with a friend! The Hatta Heritage Village will take you through the fascinating history of this mountainous border town, or get into the mountains on one of the hiking trails or hire a mountain bike. Day trip to Abu Dhabi – there’s no better time to visit Abu Dhabi than in the cooler winter months. The month of December is particularly special, as you’ll get to experience the special events that surround Union Day, as well as Christmas Festivities, from Winter Fest on Yas Island to special theme park theming at Warner Bros World, SeaWorld and Ferrari World for the winter season. Don’t miss the public art exhibition Manar Abu Dhabi happening this winter.

Seek out Souk Madinat Jumeirah – one of the most festive places to visit in Dubai in December. The annual Madinat Jumeirah Festive Market is one of the best in the city, with the Burj Al Arab providing a beautiful backdrop to their delightful Christmas tree.

This is a fabulous time of year to visit Dubai with your family, though, as we’ve mentioned, it is also one of the most expensive times to visit, and accommodation is booked up in popular locations.

We suggest families look at booking serviced apartments or Airbnb – we have selected our favourite Dubai family apartment options here – or go all out if you’re in a big group and book a family villa with a pool!

There are activities aplenty for families to enjoy; here are some suggestions for December:

Attend a Christmas show at the QE2 Theatre – this hotel-come-entertainment venue permanently docked at Port Rashid is a wonderful family experience with winter shows a highlight. This year Sinead the Sailor will take to the stage between the 18 and 27 December to share the thrill of his amazing adventures! Younger children (3-11) might also enjoy The Great Christmas Elf Bake Off – a live interactive show on the 6 and 7 December on the QE2.
Families can also enjoy Rapunzel and her holiday wish at the New Covent Garden Theatre from the 5-24 December and Annie The Musical at the Zabeel Theatre from the 12-14 December. Dubai based children’s entertainer Magic Phil will be bringing his Christmas Cracker show to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel Theatre from 12-14 December. Then from the 17-29 December the magic of the panto hits with Cinderella (also at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel).
Visit Santa in his snowy Grotto at Ski Dubai! A favourite with local families seeking the perfect Santa photo meet and greet opportunity. Book earlier as this is very popular! Tickets go on sale in early November.

Swing your way through Mushrif Park – a little hidden gem on the city’s outskirts is Aventura Parks – high ropes and zip lines through the almost forest-like Mushrif Park. Ideal in winter when the waterparks are getting a little cool, but your kids still want an active adventure – other than the occasional Emirates flight landing over your heads, you won’t believe you’re in the city! Yes, December is one of the best times to visit Dubai if you prefer cooler weather. It is also peak tourist season, so be mindful that this makes it the most expensive time for accommodation, and you can expect lines and crowds everywhere you go.

Does it rain in Dubai in December?

It’s not unheard of for rain to fall in Dubai in December, though it’s not a daily occurrence – we wouldn’t go packing an umbrella ‘just in case.’ If it does rain in Dubai, it’s best to try and stay put, as it can lead to chaos on the roads and minor flash flooding. It typically lasts less than a day or two before rain clouds move on. The average precipitation is about 20mm in December.

Do they celebrate Christmas in Dubai?

Dubai is in a Muslim country, though it receives a large influx of international workers and tourists of all religions. Whilst Christmas is not a recognised public holiday, it is widely observed in Dubai in the tourism and hospitality sector. You will have no problem finding some festive cheer in Dubai in December – although they may be called winter festivals rather than Christmas.

Is Dubai expensive in December?

Due to increased demand for hotels during December, December can be an expensive time to visit Dubai. There can be shopping bargains to be had and deals if you book in advance, but do expect it to be the most expensive time to visit Dubai as demand outstrips supply for basically everything – particularly the week of Christmas to New Year.

Everyone keeps telling you to visit Dubai in the winter, but why?

How much difference will it make to your Dubai experience to visit in the cooler months of the year? Exactly how cold does it get, and can you expect sunshine or rain? Is it still beach weather in the middle of the Dubai winter season? What’s going on during winter 2025-26 to make it worth the visit?

Winter in Dubai brings with it mild temperatures, plenty of sunshine, festivals and live entertainment, with a very low chance of your winter plans being washed out by inclement weather. Let’s take a deep dive into Dubai’s desert climate and the best winter activities in Dubai and The United Arab Emirates.

When is Winter in Dubai?

Following the northern hemisphere seasons, winter in Dubai falls from December to March. However, unlikely much of Europe and North America don’t expect snow and freezing temperatures. Dubai likes to blissfully glide into a mild winter of blue skies, sunny days, and crisp cool evenings – but rarely what most would call COLD.

Rather than a traditional four seasons, Dubai’s seasons can best be described as simply summer and winter, with huge degrees of heat variation between the two (or hot, very hot, and OMG, I can’t believe it gets that HOT!).

Winter in Dubai still brings plenty of sunshine and mild days

The cooler, more bearable months of the year generally run from late October, where we see a significant drop in daytime highs (from the 40’s°C down to the lows 30’s°C in November), through to mid-May, where the temperatures start hitting into the 40°C/100°F + realms once more.

Dubai Winter Temperature: How Cold Does Dubai Get in Winter?

The coolest month of the year for Dubai is January, where the average temperature is 24.2°C (76°F). The average overnight low in January is 14.6°C (58°F), and the average sea temperature of Dubai in January is 23.9°C (75°F).

You can expect, on average, 8 hours of sunshine on a Dubai winter’s day.

There can, of course, be extremes in Dubai at any time of year, and winter is no exception. Daytime temperatures in January can climb over 30°C (86°F), and nighttime temperatures in the mountains and desert can get as cold as freezing – snow can occur on the UAE’s highest peak – Jebel Jais – on the coldest of days.

Does it Rain in Dubai in the Winter?

Rain is not a daily occurrence in Dubai; however, increasingly, rainstorms can occur – usually downpours all at once rather than days on end of rain and drizzle.

On average, you can expect five rain days per month between December and March. It is hard to predict precisely when it might rain in Dubai more than a few days out, so we wouldn’t go planning a winter holiday in Dubai around the weather, nor even pack an umbrella.

However, be aware it CAN happen and when it does…. oh boy! Flash flooding and traffic chaos can ensue. It’s best if it rains during your trip to Dubai to head somewhere safely indoors and wait it out until it passes >> see our indoor suggestions below!

Be aware that Dubai also engages in cloudseeding, which has resulted in more frequent rain showers than the UAE has historically experienced.

Fog in Dubai

By far, a bigger issue in Dubai in winter than rain is fog. For most of the winter months in Dubai, in fact, from even as early as September, you will start to experience some phenomenal morning fogs descending upon the city due to the overnight humidity.

This low-level fog normally burns off by mid-morning to leave a beautiful, crisp, and sunny day ahead. The fog can, however, cause air traffic chaos and problems on the fast-flowing roads. On rare occasions, it can be so severe as to close DXB airport.

Things to Do in Dubai in the Winter

So, on to the fun stuff and why we love winter in Dubai so much: the cooler weather means a return to our favourite parks and outdoor activities! Winter 2025/26 really starts with the return of outdoor markets and seasonal favourites like Global Village and rolls on with Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and so much more, making the most of the great outdoors.

Expo City Dubai

Expo 2020 may now feel like a distant memory, but as promised, the grounds of the amazing site have been turned into a city of the future and are well worth checking out this winter. New in 2025, they have introduced the Al Wasl season pass which includes events from Fall harvest through to Ramadan.

Winter City under the Al Wasl Dome is one of the highlights with a Christmas market, Santa’s House, Frosty’s Farm House and an enchanting Carols by Candlelight service from 20 to 24 December.

General Admission tickets are now on sale for AED 50, whilst Carols by Candlelight costs AED 150 per person.

Winter City is open daily from 6 to 31 December, 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Carols by Candlelight 6:20 pm and 7:50 pm from 20 to 24 December 2025

Dubai Parks & Outdoor Activities

Head to one of Dubai’s many parks and popular outdoor spaces during your winter trip to Dubai. Some of the top parks we recommend visitors to explore for experiencing different sides of Dubai include:

Mushrif Park

Unlike most of the city’s parks that are beautifully manicured, Mushrif Park has a more wilderness feel of native shrubland amongst the native Ghaf trees. A popular weekend picnicking spot and home to the treetop ropes course, Aventura, it’s hard to believe such greenery exists close to the city!

Ras Al Khor Wildlife

Set along the banks of Dubai Creek and managed by Dubai Municipality, Ras Al Khor Wildlife Reserve is one of the most unique outdoor experiences in Dubai. Home to birds, most famously the flamingo, mammals, reptiles, and fish, this is one of the city’s hidden gems worthy of a half-day visit to soak in inner-city tranquillity.

Quranic Park

A new instalment of Dubai Municipality, this beautifully laid out park in the Al Khawaneej area of the city is dedicated to the Holy Quran. Covering 60 acres, the park is open to all faiths to explore, including the “Glasshouse” which displays plants mentioned in the Holy Quran and the “Cave of Miracles” which tells stories from the Holy Book.

J1 Beach (formerly La Mer)

Recently reopened after a long renovation, La Mer is now known as J1 Beach and has turned to upscale beach clubs and dining rather than colorful beach huts and free days in the sun – watch this space as its only opened in stages since October so we can’t report back just yet!

Dubai has a surprising range of great parks and outdoor spaces

Dubai Safari Park – Found in the Al Warqa 5 area, the park plays host to over 3000 animals, with educational, conservation, and protection at the core of their mission. Last winter they also offered evening sessions, we are waiting to see if these will return.

The Walk & The Beach JBR – this iconic beachfront area of Dubai has something for everyone. City meets beach on the bustling waterfront walk. Enjoy cosmopolitan restaurants to ice cream stands and kids splash parks, camel rides along the beach, and a huge range of water sports are on offer.

Al Seef – where old meets new along the western bank of the Dubai Creek. Traditional architecture seamlessly blends the city’s oldest neighbourhood into this modern waterfront destination. Catch your boat tours from here or enjoy a bite overlooking the water and stroll the touristy shops.

Desert safaris, dune sports and camping in Dubai in winter

Winter is an ideal time to explore Dubai’s desert. On an evening, overnight safari, or early morning hot air balloon ride, you will definitely want to pack a warm jumper/sweater and take long trousers with you, along with closed-toe shoes. You may even want a beanie and scarf if you’re particularly susceptible to the cold, but it’s not super cold. Organised desert camps will provide you with the necessary blankets.

With the cooler day temperatures too, winter is the best time for a daytime Dubai desert safari. Operates have re-opened post-Covid-19 with a strict range of safety measures in place to make them a fun and enjoyable experience for all.

Dubai enjoys a spectacular array of outdoor dining venues, and in the winter months, people take full advantage of this to enjoy the city’s spectacular skyline.

Whether it’s city vistas and a thriving party scene you are after with views of the Burj Khalifa or romantic and uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf, Dubai has a rooftop bar to suit!

Explore the Old City and Souks of Dubai

The cooler months of winter make it ideal for longer strolls outside. You could spend a full day exploring the museums around Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, then take a traditional abra over to the Deira side of Dubai Creek to experience the many souks of Dubai, most popular the Gold & Spice Souks, and pick up some Dubai souvenirs!

The newly re-opened Shindagah Historic District would make a great outing this winter to rediscover a historic part of the city brought back to its former glory.

Hit the beach

Whilst many hotels have their own private beaches, there are a number of public beaches and beach clubs around the city offering a variety of different experiences. From sophisticated beach hang-outs to chilled-out family spots like Kite Beach,; Dubai really does have it all when it comes to beach experiences.

Most beach clubs close during the hottest months, and whilst December and January may not feel like beach weather for many residents, temperatures are still considered ‘warm’ by many visitors. Visit the Theme Parks

Winter is the perfect time for theme park fans to visit Dubai with pleasant weather.

Dubai Parks and Resorts, with the combined theme parks of Legoland, Motiongate and real Madrid World, makes for an excellent winter choice.

IMG Worlds of Adventure makes a great choice for inclement weather as it’s entirely indoors.

Heading down the road to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, there are now 4 mega-theme parks to enjoy – Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi and SeaWorld Yas Island.

Day Trip to other Emirates

The cooler days of winter make it a great time to explore the other emirates of the UAE (did you know Dubai is one of 7 Emirates of the UAE? Here are our top Dubai day trip suggestions:

A trip to the Capital Abu Dhabi, is a must. Marvel at the stunning grandeur of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, tour the Presidential Place Qasr Al Watan or explore the history of humanity at The Louvre Abu Dhabi – learn more about the Culture Express bus running this winter.

Adrenaline junkies, head to Ras Al Khaimah! Home to the UAE’s tallest peak Jebel Jais, and the UAE adventure capital, this is where to head for scenic drives, mountain hiking and biking, wadi tours, camping and any extreme outdoor activity you can think of!

The perfect mix of outdoor adventures and history, head to the far east coast of the country and explore the emirate of Fujairah. From snorkelling opportunities at Snoopy Beach to dhow cruises at Dibba, this is our favourite day trip from Dubai in winter for a taste of the “other side” of the UAE, away from the modern high rises.

Dubai Water Parks and Water Sports in Winter

So, just how cold does the seawater get in winter? If you want to dip in the Arabian Gulf waters in winter, it can drop as low as 22°C (73°F) in the middle of winter.

Our super-sensitive desert kids would squeal that this is far too cold, but visitors from the depth of European winter will no doubt find it positively balmy!

Water Parks in Dubai remain open almost throughout the year, but you may find they close for a fortnight at some point in the winter (generally outside of school holiday times). It’s worth checking any possible closure times before you travel if this is an important part of your Dubai travel plans. Aquaventure at Atlantis remains the largest in the Middle East, but also the most crowded and can suffer from long queues. Also consider Wild Wadi Waterpark or with littles, Legoland Waterpark.

Resort swimming pools, on the other hand, are far more likely to be temperature controlled, so you will find them wonderfully heated in the winter (in fact, pools will start being heated to maintain a steady 28°C-30°C water temperature from about October!). Not all hotel pools are created the same in this regard! It pays to check the fine print if you’re booking a Dubai hotel in winter.

If in doubt, why not book a hotel in Dubai with an indoor pool? Plenty of places offer indoor pools, from lap pools to luxury indoor spas, for year-round relaxation at ideal temperatures.

Dubai Cruises and Boat Rides

You will undoubtedly be able to enjoy getting out on the water around Dubai in plenty of other ways.

Winter is a good time to take a tour out of Dubai Marina, or a traditional abra across Dubai Creek is popular, or extend your evening with a more formal dinner dhow cruise.

There are many yachts, from Dubai Marina, in particular, where you can privately charter a yacht for your party, be it a daytime sightseeing cruise or a fun evening party out on the water.

Remember, it can get chilly in the evenings, so wear appropriate warmer clothing if you’ll be hitting the water at night.

Dubai’s Seasonal Winter Events

Many events and Dubai winter attractions will only open over the cooler months of the year, though these “seasons” are gradually creeping longer each year!

Here’s just a selection of our favourites for visitors to enjoy a different side of Dubai:

Global Village

The crowds and colours of Dubai’s Global Village need to be seen to be believed. Like a giant world’s fair representing over 70 countries through food, dance, and live performances.

This outdoor extravaganza from 16 October 2025 through until early May (the closing date can be weather dependent)

Dubai Garden Glow

A spectacular nighttime light display, this attraction has undergone quite a few changes and a relocation over the summer.

The new format, just in a different location within Zabeel Park (Now found at Gate 3 adjacent to the Dubai Frame) sees a 2-4-1 attraction with the ever-favourite Dinosaur Park being joined by Fantasy Park – which doesn’t look like it glows!

Whether the full glow park is returning later in the season is still yet to be seen!

Dubai Miracle Garden

The largest flower garden in the world by total blooms sits right here in Dubai! Marvel at the floral creations from the iconic A380 permanent feature to the swinging gardens, the floral clock, incredible topiary collections, and an annual changing lineup to impress!

This year’s season will run from 29 September 2025 to early May 2026. Learn more here.

Festive Winter Wonderlands in Dubai

Although Christmas is not a marked religious holiday in the United Arab Emirates, there’s no denying it’s celebrated in a big way! It may still be warm outside, but magical winter wonderlands with snow machines, Christmas trees, and market stalls for Santa himself will appear across the city in December.

All the large shopping malls will be in on the action, along with places like Souk Madinat, JBR, Winter District, Expo City, Habtoor City and Ski Dubai – see our complete Christmas in Dubai guide here (plus we share here our guide to seeking out Santa in Dubai if you’re after a festive photo for the family).

Ripe Market

Only closing now for the hottest few months of the year, the Ripe Farmers Market has a few roving locations across the city during the summer months. In winter, however, you can find it at Academy Park in the Umm Suqeim area of the city every Saturday and Sunday. The sprawling market is a great place to pick up fresh organic fruits and vegetables and also meet local artisans selling their hand-crafted products.

What if it Rains in Winter? What to do in Dubai When it Rains

On rare days, it does rain in Dubai, but don’t worry about it ruining your travel plans – Dubai is a city also built to be enjoyed indoors! Here are just a few suggestions to fill a rainy day in Dubai (with & without kids):

Dubai Frame – rain or not, you can still enjoy a bird’s eye view beneath the towering Dubai Frame – observe the Dubai Creek and Old Dubai from one side and the modern skyscrapers of Dubai to the west. See our review of the Dubai Frame here.

Dubai Mall – always a fail-safe; whatever the weather, there’s so much to see and do in and around Dubai Mall. Take a trip up the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, or take a tour of the incredible Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. (Just be warned, peak times/dates for Burj Khalifa will book up FAST!)

Little ones will love Kidzania Dubai, or Play DXB (VR Park) for your bigger kids and the giant cinema complex – even try your hand at ice skating on the Olympic-sized rink! See our full review of the Dubai Mall activities here.

The Green Planet Dubai – Offers an incredible indoor rainforest experience in the heart of the city. Snake your way around the giant artificial tree inside a giant biodome adjacent to the City Walk entertainment precinct. There’s now the added feature of an outdoor Nature Park – a large edutainment area featuring a treehouse with viewing platforms, adventure trails and slides, plus realistic animatronics of all manner of creepy crawlies (the outdoor exhibit is best for dry weather!)!

The Museum of the Future is a fascinating journey to the future of space, health and innovation (though do note that tickets need to be booked many weeks in advance; you can’t pop in here as a last-minute plan!) History buffs, though, will find Etihad Museum an excellent Dubai rainy-day choice without the queues and crowds.

Ski Dubai – this huge indoor ski centre in the Mall of the Emirates never fails to impress visitors; its the perfect spot to practice your ski skills in Dubai before experiencing the “real thing.”. Their festival experience in December is also one of the best in the city -though does book out early.

Possible Cons of Visiting Dubai in Winter

Now, it’s undoubtedly true the best time to visit Dubai is in the winter, but are there any drawbacks to a winter trip to Dubai? No deal breakers, but it’s worth considering:

It gets really busy. Crowds have unfortunately become a huge problem when visiting Dubai in the winter and during peak season. We’d highly suggest that if you are planning a visit to Dubai in the winter, be aware of the busiest periods over school holidays (generally the last three weeks of December). If you have flexibility, come on a weekday and outside the major school breaks to avoid lines at popular attractions.

It’ll cost you more: Being high season (particularly December through early January), you’ll find hotels are charging premium prices, and the best places will book up fast; there’s very little chance of finding a great deal over the cooler winter season in Dubai.

It could rain: Could is the key here – we’ve had winters without a drop of rain, then other years several days of deluge and localised flooding – its absolutely not a deal breaker; you are more likely to get a string of days with blue clear skies, but do have a contingency plan in mind, rain is usually forecast at least a week out.

We are normally full of positivity about visiting Dubai at any time of year, but see here our least favourite time to visit Dubai.

What to pack for Dubai in Winter

With the mild winter temperatures we’ve described, you’re probably wondering what to pack for Dubai in winter. We have a complete and detailed Dubai packing list for you here. The only real changes we’d make for visiting Dubai in winter vs summer

Throw in an extra pair of jeans/long trousers for the evenings
A pullover/sweater or light jacket may be needed in the evenings to deal with any cool breeze (or fierce indoor air conditioning!)

Unless rainy days are forecast for certain, we wouldn’t bother packing the umbrella for ‘just in case’. But DO still pack your sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses no matter what time of year you visit Dubai.

So, is it Worth Visiting Dubai in the Winter?

Absolutely! We can’t promise clear blue skies in Dubai every single day, but it’s pretty darn close to perfection for your mid-winter vacation!

Is there winter in Dubai?

Dubai has a distinctly cooler winter season, although the city does not experience a traditional 4-seasons. The year is better divided into summer and winter, with the cooler winter weather starting in November and lasting through until April. Daytime highs rarely drop below 20°C in this winter season, but nights can be cool, particularly in the desert and mountain areas of the Emirate, and it can sporadically rain.

Can you swim in Dubai in winter?

Locals will say it’s too cold for swimming in winter in Dubai, but coming from Europe or any colder climate in the winter months, December to February, you’ll likely think it’s still delightful! Expect the lowest water temperatures mid-winter in Dubai of around 23.9°C (75°F). Many resorts will keep their pools heated in winter to a pleasant 28°C-30°C for guests’ ongoing pleasure during the coldest months.

What are winter temperatures in Dubai?

The coolest days of winter will still top 20°C/68°F, even in January. You can expect daytime high temperatures in December of 26°C/78.8°F, January 24.2°C/76°F and February 25.6°C/78°F. It’s certainly not unheard of for the temperature to still go over 30°C/86°F in winter in Dubai.

It’s hard to use any other adjective than hot to describe Dubai in August! It is the peak of the desert summer, and the weather very much defines life in the Middle East.

That said, Dubai is a modern city built for the heat. You won’t find yourself going too far without airconditioned comfort to enjoy. You do need to plan your days carefully, though, to avoid being outside in the peak heat of the day and benefit from the plethora of activities still on offer in the evening.

Dubai Weather in August

In the hottest month of the year, daily maximums in Dubai can reach 48.8°C (120°F), averaging around 41.5°C (106.7°F). Overnight, temperatures only drop to an average low of 30.6°C (87°F), so there cn be limited relief from the heat, even at night.

Humidity starts to pick up in August, making it feel even hotter and muggier than in July (NB, look for the “feels like” temperature in your weather app to gauge how hot it is outside better).

Sea temperatures are not particularly refreshing in August either, at a balmy 33.1°C (91.6°F); even temperatures over 34°c in the water can be experienced in Dubai in August.

August is a quiet month for special events in Dubai. There are ongoing summer-long events to enjoy, such as Dubai Summer Surprises, a shopping-related event with venues all over the city, and Dubai Sports World, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, keeping kids and adults alike active in Dubai over the hottest month.

Dubai Sports World – usually held all summer, this year sees a condensed version held from 3 August through until 2 September 2025. From Ninja Warrior courses to basketball, indoor football, and parkour, there’s something to keep all age groups active over the summer – Dubai World Trade Centre.
Kingdom Festival will bring a line up of Afrobeats and Amapiano artists on 9 August 2025 – Dubai World Trade Center
Indoor summer fitness events continue with the Wafi City Summer Run on 10 August 2025

Suggested Dubai Activities in August 2026

We’re keeping it all indoors still in August, with some favourite suggestions to try in the city:

Catch La Perle by Dragon – the stunning stage show at Al Habtoor. It runs throughout the year, but August is the perfect time to catch the show in air-conditioned comfort and with special offers such as kids go free. Stick around for dinner and drinks in Al Habtoor City.

Get out on the water in air-conditioned style, enjoy a night cruise with dinner from Dubai Marina, or even catch the Dubai Ferry for a spectacular view of many of the city’s highlights in air-conditioned comfort.

Ski Dubai – hit the slopes indoors at the Mall of the Emirates, keeping you active during the hottest months.

Visit AYA – Immersive Experience – at Wafi Mall; this cutting-edge VR tech experience is a truly incredible (and airconditioned!) way to stay in touch with nature in a futuristic manner.

Try afternoon tea at the famous Burj al Arab – it may be too hot for the stunning infinity pool, but pull up a chair inside for a special treat on the 27th floor of Dubai’s “7-star” luxury jewel.

If you’d still like to enjoy the heat and get out in the sun, we suggest cooling off at one of the city’s many beach clubs. Head out in the late afternoon and stay hydrated to make the most of Dubai’s beaches in summer – or seek out some of the newer night beaches in Jumeirah.

With the Kids – August in Dubai 2026

There’s still plenty going on indoors for the little ones in August. Why not try:

Motiongate Dubai, part of the Dubai Parks and Resorts complex, offers most of its family-friendly rides and attractions indoors + complimentary daytime shuttles from the car park, making it bearable still in the summer months.

Oli Oli – the indoor children’s museum has plenty to keep the younger kids active in a wonderfully chilled and safe environment, Toshi’s net is a real hit.

Dubai Mall is home to many family attractions indoors, from KidZania to the VR Park, even ice skating! Or try the new Dubai Hills Mall, which is home to a brand new Adventure Park and an indoor roller coaster, The Storm Coaster!

Take a walk in a tropical rainforest in the centre of Dubai! The Green Planet biodome brings an incredible nature experience to the heart of the city.

Dubai gets hot in the summer. Really hot. We’re talking up to 50°C (122°F). But is it still worth planning a stopover or even a longer holiday in Dubai over the hot summer months?

Yes, it’s going to be sweaty hot, but it’s also a city built to deal with the extreme temperatures. A summer stopover in Dubai may not be as unbearable as you think – let’s see what you can expect!

Dubai Summer Temperature – How Hot Does it Actually Get?

While summer averages are reported at 45°C (113°F), it is quite typical to experience daytime maximums up to 50°C (122°F). The hottest month of the year in Dubai is August.

When is summer in Dubai? “Summer” in Dubai realistically runs from May until October.

Exactly how hot is Dubai? Check out this chart for Dubai’s average reported monthly temperatures ⁽¹⁾.

What you feel in Dubai and what is actually reported in the peas of summer can also be two different things! You need to take into account not only the temperature but also the humidity. It helps if you have a weather app that gives you the “feels like” temperature as well!

The humidity in Dubai tends to be more noticeable in the latter half of summer, August to September.

It’s also important to note that although you don’t get the sun’s powerful heat overnight, the temperatures don’t drop below 30°C (86°F). You can certainly see and do much more after dark without the glaring sun and heat, but be realistic about what can be done at night, too.

Let’s just agree: Dubai in summer is hot.

Dealing with the heat in Dubai

Dealing with the summer heat in Dubai is not nearly as difficult for most tourists as it might seem. First, nearly everything is airconditioned to the max—even too cold. You will arrive in an airconditioned airport, transfer to an airconditioned car or Metro train, and arrive at an air-conditioned accommodation. Even bus stops are air-conditioned in many locations!

Whilst the outside air temperature is extreme, most hotels will chill their pools in the summer months to make them a refreshing retreat. Swimming is still best tackled in the early morning and late afternoon/evenings (or look for a hotel with an indoor pool if you’d still like to get your laps in!).

The same cannot be said for the ocean, however! You must be mindful that the salty waters of the Gulf can be too hot for swimming in over the summer (32-35°C/90-95°F); it will feel more like spa water than a refreshing break.

And if it isn’t obvious, the sand becomes excruciatingly hot in the summer. It only takes burning sand to become trapped in your sandals or flip-flops once to work this out, let alone if you dare walk on it barefoot!

Dressing for the heat in Dubai

You should always dress sensibly for the heat. However, please don’t have any misconceptions that ladies need to be wearing a full head covering or burka! This means, ideally, wearing loose cotton clothing that is still respectable.

A couple of important summer clothing observations:

Tourists must note the difference between “resort wear” and what you wear publicly. Although this seems to have relaxed over the years (maybe too much?), as a sign of respect, keep the skimpy clothing and bathers only to the pool & beach.
When walking through hotel public areas, on public transport, in malls and restaurants, you should ALWAYS dress respectfully for the Muslim country you are in. At a minimum, think covered knees and shoulders for both sexes and nothing too clingy and revealing – yep, you will see many people flaunting this “rule”.
Stick with cotton/rayon and breathable materials. Man-made materials will make you even hotter and sweatier.
Temperature drops between outside and indoor air conditioning can be extreme. Make no mistake, you will still want to pack a wrap or cardigan for those indoor blasts of cold!

Whilst many seasonal favourites may be closed, there’s still plenty happening indoors to enjoy in Dubai over the summer months (we will be adding to this list as we approach summer 2026 and more events are announced!)

Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa & Downtown Dubai

One of the world’s largest malls still has a huge amount going on over the summer. You could spend a few days here and not run out of things to do!

Sitting in the heart of “Downtown Dubai”, some of our favourites at Dubai Mall include:

Burj Khalifa Observation Deck – (Levels 124 & 125 “At The Top” advance booking essential). The entrance is through the Dubai Mall basement level.
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo – you can view the world’s largest suspended tank from within the Mall for free or come in for plenty of interactive water life experiences.
Kidzania Dubai – a real-to-life town where kids “work” to earn Kidzos to spend on fun activities.
Play DXB (Formerly VR Park) – a virtual reality theme park.
Dubai Ice Rink – indoor ice skating fun on a full-sized Olympic rink.
ARTE Museum – interactive gallery experience
House of Hype – interactive art experience
Dubai Opera – offering a year-round program of incredible entertainment from traditional opera to the best of Westend theatre and internationally acclaimed acts.
Evening fountain show of Burj Lake, plus LED light show on the Burj Khalifa (NB – the fountains have been temporarily closed in 2025 for extensive renovations; reopening date still TBC)
With the kids, don’t forget the giant Hamleys store, plus The Toy Store in the basement – plenty of FREE fun entertainment!

Dubai Mall has plenty of fun attractions to keep you entertained indoors

Dubai Mall is certainly not the only shopping mall with a lot going on. In fact, malls are where most summer life circulates during the day in Dubai.

You can also try a few more novel indoor ideas in Dubai, such as:

Mall of the Emirates

It is easy to reach on the Metro (the stop is aptly named Mall of the Emirates), about 30 minutes away from Dubai Mall. The Mall of the Emirates is fairly close to those staying at any of the Jumeirah Hotels and is only about 10 minutes from the Dubai Marina/JBR area.

Ski Dubai & penguin encounters – sub-zero temperatures in the peak of summer, yes please!!
Magic Planet – an extensive family entertainment complex including Yalla! Bowling, Highway66 mini bowling, and Gravity Air Park – think trampolines!
Catch the latest flix at the huge Vox Cinema complex

City Centre Mirdif

Situated south of Dubai city, this great suburban mall has entertainment and dining options. It’s not on the Metro, so you’d need a taxi/Uber. Why not try

ifly indoor flying simulator gravity-defying indoor fun!
Sky Trails and Climbing Wall – part of the Magic Planet kids entertainment centre.
Massive 20-screen Vox Cinema offers every type of movie screening you can imagine!

Times Square

A smaller community Mall that’s got a few key fun entertainment attractions for summer! You’ll find it on the Red Metro line (Rostamani Tower is 300m away, a 4 min walk or Financial Centre Metro is about 350m away 5 min walk)

Adventure Zone by Adventure HQ – offering indoor climbing walls, obstacle courses and more
Chillout Ice Lounge – enjoy a desert drink in sub-zero temperatures!

Dubai Hills Mall

One of the city’s newest mega malls has loads of fun new indoor instalments, including:

Storm Coaster – the world’s largest indoor rollercoaster.
Adventure Park – climbing walls to rope courses keeping kids active indoors, designed for kids 4+.
Hamleys Play – an extension to the toy store with rides and games
Play DXB – another instalment of the highly popular VR Park as found in Dubai Mall (but with fewer queues for attractions!)

Top Dubai tourist attractions to visit in the summer

These are the best options for staying cool inside, although you may still need to step outside briefly to access them.

The Dubai Frame – superb views as well as interactive displays around Dubai’s past and present in Zabeel Park.
Museum of the Future – journey 50 years ahead in this landmark Dubai building
Etihad Museum – learn more about the country’s recent history and journey to unification.
The Green Planet Dubai – an entirely indoor biodome experience that transports you to a tropical rainforest (warm but much cooler than outside!!) at City Walk.
La Perle evening extravaganza by Dragone is one of the city’s most highly acclaimed stage shows, and it has a permanent home in Al Habtoor City.
The View at The Palm – offers sensational sky-high views over Palm Jumeirah

Theme Parks

IMG Worlds of Adventure is the only entirely indoor theme park in Dubai.
Dubai Parks and Resorts is another favourite family offering, including Legoland Dubai, Motiongate, and the newly opened Real Madrid World (in place of Bollywood). As it’s partly outdoors, it may not suit everyone, though you can also retreat inside to the expansive indoor play space, Neon Galaxy.

Miniland inside Legoland is an entirely indoor reprieve from the heat, but much of the park’s fun attractions and mini coasters are outdoors and too hot to tackle in the park of summer

If time permits and you have access to a transfer, our favourite indoor theme park is actually Warner Bros World in Abu Dhabi – you can easily access Warner Bros on a day trip from Dubai. We’d add to this list SeaWorld Yas Island, too, which is entirely indoors and includes the frosty-cold Antarctica realm, kept at 1°C!

Outdoor Activities in Dubai over Summer

The water parks in Dubai are the main outdoor attractions that remain in full operation during Dubai’s hottest summer months.

Dubai Waterparks

Atlantis Aquaventure Water Park (entry included if you stay at Atlantis the Palm).
Wild Wadi Water Park (Entry included if you stay at one of the Jumeirah hotels)
Legoland Water Park – best for your smaller kids, based out in Jebel Ali, attached to the Dubai Parks & Resorts complex. Note, they are running Splash Fest this summer from 28 June to 24 August, which includes Kids Go Free and an exclusive after-party for guests staying at Legoland Dubai resort.

Yas Waterworld (ok, this one is actually on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, but it is definitely worth considering as a day trip from Dubai, alongside the entirely indoors Warner Bros World) With the addition of 20 new rides and attractions this summer, it’s a serious contender for the best waterpark in the UAE.

REMEMBER: Even if you hire a cabana, wear sunscreen and stay in the shade, it can still be excruciatingly hot outside even at a water park. Be mindful of hot surfaces (wear flip-flops or non-slip pool shoes everywhere and be VERY careful of touching surfaces).

Outdoor evening activities to try in Dubai in Summer:

As long as you are prepared for it to still be quite sweaty, even after dark, you could try these evening activities in Dubai once the sun goes down.

Walk around the Al Fahidi neighbourhood, taking in many of the city’s museums and galleries and along the creekfront at Al Seef before catching a traditional abra across the gold and spice souks in Deira.
The Walk in JBR, a popular outdoor dining district alongside the beach, still has a vibrant nightlife, although outdoor dining is mostly removed in the peak of summer.
Souk Madinat Jumeirah – a much more modern souk experience. From here, you get the spectacular views back to Burj Al Arab. Mostly indoor and air-conditioned, lots of dining options, and picturesque waterways.

Should I do a Dubai desert safari in Summer?

Many desert safari companies do continue to run over the summer, albeit on a reduced program.

We think this depends on how you cope with the heat, but from many years of experience, it starts to get really sticky outside from late May to early October.

If you love heat, you may still enjoy it, but with young kids, I would be extremely cautious about recommending a desert safari in the summer. An option might be to take an early morning desert safari instead to beat the worst heat of the day.

What will be closed in Dubai over the Summer in Dubai?

Our favourite attractions in Dubai that are NOT operational in summer (see links to find out when they will re-open, it’s variably around the end of October/early November) include:

Dubai Miracle Garden
Global Village Dubai
Ripe outdoor markets
Many day safari and beach sporting operators

Many restaurants and attractions remain open throughout summer, albeit with significantly reduced programs or only opening in the evenings. Outdoor brunches stop in the summer, and rooftop decks will only open in the evenings, if at all.

It’s always best to check opening hours for anything with an outdoor element from Ramadan (March) through summer.

Where to Stay in Dubai Over the Summer

The good news is that the answer is almost anywhere. All Dubai hotels will be airconditioned, and it’s very uncommon to come across a hotel that does not chill their pool in summer.

If you stay in a hotel directly attached to one of the malls or souqs, you will have excellent access to leisure and dining facilities without having to put a foot outside. Why not try;

Sheraton at Mall of the Emirates, or top-end hotel, even with a ski lodge suite, try the Kempinski
Address Dubai Mall and Address Downtown – attached to Dubai Mall

Many hotel resorts also include mini water parks, lazy rivers, and kids’ clubs. The choices are almost endless, and the summer value can be fantastic. A few suggestions to try:

Le Meridien Mina Seyahi – kids pool & kids club, playground, extensive dining options
Habtoor Grand Resort – slides, kids pool & infinity pool, indoor playground

A city with year-round action, but is there an ideal time to visit Dubai? We look at the seasons and special events in 2026 that you may want to plan your travel to Dubai around.

Is There a Best Season to Visit Dubai?

Dubai doesn’t really work on traditional seasons of the northern hemisphere, moving from mild to hot to very hot to extremely hot!

You are better off assessing Dubai on a spectrum of how much heat you can manage!

Some prefer the late spring when outside conditions are perfect for the beach, whilst others prefer the very coolest winter months of December to February, when there is a plethora of outdoor activities going on, though the beach may be too chilly and crowds are at their peak.

What to Expect Winter in Dubai

Dubai in the winter is a magical place to be. Packed full of seasonal outdoor events and plenty of hours of sunshine to enjoy with very limited rain.

The coolest months are January to February, where daily maximums usually reach 25°C/77°F, and overnight lows dip to 15°C/59°F. The sea temperature in winter dips on average to 23°C/73°F, which can be a little chilly for some.

Midwinter festivities start from National Day in early December, accompanied by Rugby 7’s and Christmas (yes, even in a Muslim country, it’s still full of festivity). The mild weather sticks around until April; then things rapidly heat up by the end of May.

Winter is the best time of year to enjoy the Dubai desert too and outdoor adventures.

What to Expect Summer in Dubai

Life in Dubai largely moves indoors and to the evenings during the hottest months. Peak summer temperatures can be as high as 50°C (122°F), though average in the low 40°’Cs.

It really starts to heat up by late April and peaks in August/September when the humidity also really kicks in.

Be mindful not only of air temperatures but sea temperatures which can rise to 32-35°C mid-summer – not exactly a refreshing ocean dip! You’ll want to check that your accommodation has a temperature-controlled pool.

By October, the temperatures start to recede, and humidity drops, then by November, you are back to the mild and pleasant winter.

Common Questions about Dubai Weather

Does Dubai get rain?

Yes! It might take you by surprise, but rain is possible over the cooler winter months (or it could stay completely dry!). Over the last 10 years, it has rained on average five days of the year – the large exception to this was 2024 where severe rain storms saw large parts of the Emirate flash flood for several days.

There’s no need to pack an umbrella ‘just in case’. If it rains in Dubai, it’s best to stay put if you can until it passes. It’s unlikely to go on for days, but when it does rain, there’s most likely flash flooding, and driving becomes chaotic.

Does Dubai get sandstorms?

Yes! Dust or sand storms are common in the UAE. They may not be as extreme as those seen in the movies (looking at you, Mission Impossible!) Nonetheless, there can be a lot of dust in the air throughout the year.

Dubai often has a permanent hanging layer of dust spoiling the skyline, but you experience this less so in Abu Dhabi and the other Emirates.

The problem in most of the UAE is the fine layer of dust that develops pretty much year-round. A hazard of being in the middle of the desert. Those with severe asthma and other respiratory conditions should keep abreast of the AQI if it’s dusty out.

Does Dubai get fog?

Yes! The most common atmospheric condition after dust is fog. This can cause havoc, particularly at the major airports in the winter months.

There’s no way of predicting it in advance, but it might be one of those things you might need to factor into your travel plans if it occurs during your visit. Normally, it burns off by late morning, but it can make overnight and early morning driving hazardous (more so than usual!) and delay planes at DXB.

Does Dubai get snow?

We would joke that Dubai only saw snow when Ski Dubai arrived!

It has, in fact, snowed in the Northern Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah! The last time this was recorded on the country’s tallest peak, Jebel Jais, was in January 2020. Jebel Jais in the Hajar Mountains can experience temperatures up to 10c cooler than the coast.

In Dubai itself, though… very unlikely, but never say never! This is Dubai, after all.

Religion & Religious Holidays in Dubai

As a Muslim country, the Hijri Calendar is observed as well, following the Gregorian calendar.

Note that the weekend has recently changed from Friday/Saturday to Friday afternoon, Saturday & Sunday for the public sector. These days of the week are generally much busier than weekdays.

Public Holidays in Dubai

The main Muslim religious observances in Dubai and the UAE are:

The Holy Month of Ramadan
Eid al-Fitr
Arafat Day & Eid al-Adha
Hijri New Year
Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif – the Prophet’s birthday

These dates move forward roughly ten days each year compared to the Gregorian calendar. Actual dates are not confirmed until the moon is sighted, and the Government may move the date the public holiday is observed.

The UAE also celebrates

New Year’s Day on 1 January annually
Commemoration Day (previously marked as Martyrs Day on 29 November); 30 November and 1 December have sometime been declared public holidays in observance.
National Day (recently changed to Eid Al Etihad) on 2-3 December annually

Although not marked as public holidays, there are many international religious events that you will also find observed on a wide scale in the retail and hospitality industries in Dubai, including:

Chinese New Year (17 February 2026)
Holi in Dubai (3 March 2026)
Easter in Dubai Catholic (5 April 2026) Orthodox (12 April)
Diwali in Dubai (21 October 2025, 6 November 2026)
Thanksgiving in Dubai (27 November 2025, 26 November 2026)
Christmas in Dubai (25 December)

Ramadan in Dubai

It’s important to observe each year when the Holy Month of Ramadan – the 9th month on the Hijri calendar will occur (the start date changes by approximately 10 days on the Gregorian calendar each year). This is a period of deep religious reflection for Muslims and is strictly observed.

Ramadan in 1447 will start approximately 18 Februaryans end on approx 20 March 2026.

It used to be a time when strict daytime fasting was observed in the UAE and a much more stringent modest dress code followed. However, in recent years the rules and social norms have become significantly more flexible.

Now that Ramadan falls during the cooler, peak tourism months, you’ll find almost all venues aimed at tourists now stay open throughout Ramadan, as do many daytime dining establishments, to the point where you may not even realise its Ramadan!

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still show respect for those who are fasting around you and moderate your behaviour. Its a fabulous opportunity to join with iftar (the evening breaking of the fast), learn more about the Islamic culture at venues such as SMCCU and partake in overnight festivities such as suhoor and late-night shopping are great reasons to visit at this time of year.

School Holidays in Dubai

Visitors should be mindful when local school holidays occur in Dubai. Most Dubai schools work on a three-term school year from September to December, January to March, and April to June (though some Asian curriculum schools operate a different school year).

School holidays are now aligned at all MoE and private schools in the UAE as follows:

Term 1 Mid-Term Break: 13 to 17 October 2025
Winter Break: 6 December to 4 January 2026
Term 2 Mid-Term Break: 16 to 19 February 2026
Spring Break: 14 March to 29 March 2026 (Inclusive of Eid-al-Fitr*)
Term 3 Mid-Term Break: 26 to 29 May 2026 (inclusive of Eid-al-Adha*)
Summer Break: From 4 July 2026

The 2026-27 school dates are yet to be announced but will likely follow a similar timing patter to the above.

If you visit at any peak school holiday times, expect hotel accommodation to cost more and attractions to be MUCH busier. At these times, you will want to book in advance and arrange for skip-the-line tickets if possible.

Seeing attractions earlier in the day will always result in fewer crowds than in the evening; Dubai has a very much a stay-up-late and evening culture, even for families.

Dubai’s average daytime temperature in November is 30.7°C/87°F.

Temperatures continue their decline over November from highs of 38°C/100°F at the start of the month, down to much more pleasant days in the high 20’s/low 80s F by month-end as the city transitions towards winter.

In November, the temperature will lower to around 20°C/68°F overnight. This can be a little cooler overnight if you are heading into the desert.

Foggy mornings can commence in October tend to roll into November and beyond, but sunny days beckon for a return of outdoor events during the day.

In November, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 28.4°C/83°F (Maximum sea temperatures are expected at 30.3°C/85°F through to a minimum of 26.5°C/81°F).

Other Weather Patterns That Are Common in Dubai in November

As mentioned above, it’s important to be aware of fog in Dubai when the weather transitions from hot to mild. The fog builds up overnight as cooler winds from off the coast meet with the warm desert air.

Although the daytime temperatures in Dubai are cooling, continue to be aware of the UV rays and use sun protection outside. On average, there are still 10 hours a day of sunshine in November.

Dubai’s average rainfall in November is less than 5mm, so there is still no need for an umbrella and raincoat. November storms are rare, though not unheard of.

What Should I Pack for November in Dubai?

For most, they will find both day and night temperatures warm enough not to need additional layers of clothing; evening conditions are perfect in November! But a light wrap or cardigan may be needed by those who feel the cold, or perhaps if you will be headed into the desert for an evening safari.

Dubai’s average day time temperature in October is 35.6°C/96°F.

Over the month of October, Dubai’s weather graduates from summer extremes to pleasant beach weather. October has historically ranged from highs of 42°C/108°F at the start of the month, through to manageable day time highs in the low 30s°C/90°F by month-end.

Days are typically clear and sunny, though atmospheric changes can result in early morning fog forming. There is a very low chance of rainfall and thunderstorms in October.

Overnight in the city, you can expect the temperature to lower to around a mild 24.5°C/76°F. If you are heading into the desert, this can be a little cooler overnight.

In October, you should expect Dubai sea temperatures on average of 31°C/88°F (Maximum sea temperatures are expected of 32°C/89°F through to a minimum 30°C/87°F).

Other weather patterns that are common in Dubai in October

Early morning fog commonly starts to occur from late October as the cooling sea breezes mix overnight with the warm desert air. This layer of fog tends to burn off by mid-morning but can cause havoc on the roads and at the airports on a bad day.

The occurrence of rain and thunderstorms is rare in October but not utterly unheard, but certainly no need to pack your ‘brolly just in case. The UV rays are still most likely to dominate over clouds.

Dubai’s average daytime high temperature in September is 39.2°C (102.5°F).

September in Dubai can take visitors by surprise as the stifling heat of August continues well into September. Historically, highs have been as much as 45.1°C (113.2°F), with overnight lows of 28°C (82.4°F). The average for the month is 33°C (91.4°F).

Days are long and clear but humidity is higher in September than July and August and the “feels like” temperature is usually much hotter than the air temperature.

Dubai Sea Temperature in September

In September, you should expect an average sea temperature of 32.6°C (90.7°F). The maximum sea temperature is similar to August, at 33.7°C (91.8°F), and it only drops to 31.5°C (89.6°F) by the end of the month.

You’re not past the peak heat of summer yet, and you will find little reprieve from the daytime heat dipping in the ocean in September—hang in there—October is just around the corner!

The humidity is the main thing to watch out for in September. Days are clear from rain, but a haze can linger over the city at this time of year, and it’s really quite unpleasant at times to be outside without that clammy feel.

What should I pack for September in Dubai?

In September you still need to pack for the extreme heat and sweat. Light cottons are your friend and sunhats and sunglasses essential, along with an antiperspirant!

You may still want to pack something with long sleeves if you plan to visit shopping malls and indoor spaces that are heavily airconditioned.

If you are heading to the desert, closed-toed shoes may be preferred to sandals or flip-flops to avoid scorching sand between your toes!

Dubai’s average daytime maximum temperature in August is 41.5°C (106.7°F).

It’s nothing but hot, hot, hot as the outlook in August. Even when you think it can’t get any hotter, there are some furiously muggy hot days thrown in with highs reaching 48.8°C (120°F) – the “feels like” temperature which accounts for humidity and wind chill as well exceeds 50°C (122°F)!

There’s little relief overnight as temperatures may only drop as far as 30.6°C (87°F). The average throughout the day in August is 35.3°C (95.5°F), the absolute peak heat of the year in Dubai. You will get an abundance of sunshine in August, averaging 10.5 hours+ a day, but you are likely to be sheltered inside during those hours.

Dubai Sea Temperature in August

In August you should expect sea temperatures on average of 33.1°C (91.6°F). The minimum and maximum don’t vary much from 31.6°C (90.1°F) through to 34.7°C (93.2°F).

You will find very little relief from an ocean swim in August. Unless you are jumping in the early evening, it is too hot, and the water does not cool much overnight. You are best taking advantage of a lovely chilled resort pool when you’re visiting Dubai in the summer.

On the plus side, you can find heavily discounted hotel deals at this time of year as resorts still look to fill their rooms despite the heat. Outdoor recreation activities, though, are likely to be off the table until at least the end of September.

You will also notice an increase in humidity and the air temperature in August. This leads to a very muggy heat.

Often the city looks quite hazy in August; sandstorms are not uncommon at this time of year.

Although August is historically the driest month in Dubai, and rain is very unlikely, a brief thunderstorm is not totally unheard of. There is no need to pack the brolly just in case, though!

What should I pack for August in Dubai?

In August, you will need to be prepared for the extremes. Outside temperatures are searingly hot, so pack breathable cotton materials that don’t stain easily with sweat marks. Long flowing dresses and loose, long-sleeve shirts work best, along with plenty of antiperspirant!

You will definitely want some sort of sun protection for your head, sunglasses, and 50SPF sunscreen—even if you will only briefly be outside.

At the other end of the scale, in August, you will want to be prepared for the brutal force of air conditioning indoors! A cardigan or pullover should suffice in most situations. If you are still considering braving the Dubai desert in the evening, closed-toed shoes are recommended to protect your feet against the scorching sands that only cool a little at night.

As Dubai slips gracefully into a mild winter, December has historically ranged from highs of 28°C/82.4°F at the start of the month through to 25°C/77°F at the end of December.

Dubai’s average daytime temperature in December is 26°C/78.8°F.

Days are typically clear and sunny but there is a small chance of rain and thunderstorms – 8 hours a day of sunshine a day is forecast.

Overnight in the city, you can expect the temperature to lower between 18°C/64°F to 15°C/59°F. This can be a little cooler overnight if you are heading into the desert.

In December, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 25.6°C/78°F (Maximum sea temperatures are expected of 28.5°C/83.3°F through to a minimum of 23.8°C/74.9°F).

Fog is a common occurrence in Dubai in December, which can cause chaos with transport at times. It’s not a regular occurrence, but it’s always something to be mindful of.

It’s also not unusual to experience winter rain showers in December – 20mm falls in December on average. Packing an umbrella is probably an unnecessary extra item of luggage. If you’re unfortunate enough to be caught in the rain you may be able to borrow one from your hotel, sit it out to the rain stops or buy one!

Dubai’s average daytime maximum temperature in April is 33.3°C (92°F).

April in Dubai is a transition month. Things really heat up over the month of April, from a mild, pleasant typical Spring start to often sweltering days by month-end. April has historically ranged from highs of 30°C (86°F) at the start of the month through to 35°C (9°5F) at the end of April.

Skies are usually clear with 10+ hours a day of sunlight. The odd extremely hot day may be felt with temperatures in excess of 43.5°C (110°F).

Overnight in the city, you can expect the temperature to lower between 19°C (66°F) to 23°C (73.4°F). You are unlikely to need an extra layer in the evening during April – but air conditioning can still be fierce indoors!

In April, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 25.8°C (78.4°F) (Maximum sea temperatures are expected of 28°C (80.6°F) but can be as low as 23.6°C (76.2°F).

Many resorts are still heating their pools into April to ensure pleasant swimming temperatures.

The weather can *almost* be guaranteed as hot and sunny in Dubai throughout April, though the occasional late season thunderstorm is not unheard of. Certainly no need to pack your umbrella just in case, any downpour is likely to come and go quickly – though causes chaos in its path!

You may also experience some exceptionally hot days. Keep an eye on daily temperatures, it is not wise to be out in the sun during the peak of the day so plan your days well between indoor and outdoor activities in April.

The occasional dust storm may be experienced in Dubai in April.

There is a good deal of daylight hours in April, but cloud cover is common, expect 11 hours of daylight on average and a UV rating of 8.

What should I pack for April in Dubai?

It significantly heats up over the month of April, meaning there is little need to pack any extra layers or pullovers. As we mentioned though, air conditioning indoors can still be brutal so you may still want a cardigan or pullover for shopping malls and any indoor activities.

Evenings are really pleasant in Dubai in April, perfect to enjoy an evening dinner cruise or head into the desert (Just be aware of the mozzies, they like this sort of weather too. Definitely pack your bug spray if you’re prone to bites).

Dubai’s average daytime maximum temperature in June is 39.8°C (103.6°F).

Summer really starts to hit its full intensity in June. Daytime highs can hit as much as 47.9°C (118.2°F), whilst overnight, the average minimum is 27.7°C (81.9°F).

Humidity is lower than the peak of summer, and the days are long, clear and generally blue-skied, though too hot for outdoor daytime activities, even from the start of June.

Whilst the emirate of Dubai is still very much welcoming tourists to return in 2021, and restaurant and entertainment venues had capacity restrictions lifted in May, there is still a possibility that advertised events could be cancelled last minute or postponed. Dubai Sea Temperature in June

In June, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 31.7°C (89.1°F). Sea temperatures at the start of the month can be as low as 30.4°C (87.8°F) but expect highs up to 33°C (90.4°F) in the water.

It is still pleasant enough swimming temperatures where it is just cooler to be in the water than outside, but make no mistake, it’s getting steamy out there as you head into the summer’s hottest months in Dubai. Visiting a water park or a resort with a swimming pool chiller might need to be on the cards for June.

Other weather patterns that are common in Dubai in June

Summer in Dubai brings with it very little, if any, rainfall and less likelihood of sandstorms than in the spring. The humidity is lower at the start of summer than at the end, making June more pleasant than August/September.

Daylight hours are the longest in June, and as long as you stick out of the peak of the day, you may still enjoy a little sunshine very early morning and at sunset. You can expect, on average, 11.4 hours of sunshine per day.

What should I pack for June in Dubai?

As you hit peak temperatures in Dubai, it’s really about dressing for the heat. Ideally pack cotton clothing that can deal with the heat and sweat, along with your other essentials such as antiperspirants, sunscreen, sunglass and a hat. At any time of year, we recommend packing a shawl or something with long sleeves if you are going to be indoors, as the air conditioning can be fierce!

Dubai’s average daytime maximum temperature in May is 37.8°C (100°F).

The temperature climbs over the month of May can feel quite extreme as you jump from fairly warm daytime highs of April to some absolutely scorching hot summer days, just a taster of what’s to come!

The daytime highs in Dubai can be as much as 43.5°C (110.3°F) in May, whilst overnight, the average low is 25.2°C (77.4°F). All up in May expect an average of 31.2°C (88.1°F) – very much more summer than traditional spring!

May is the best month we recommend for sun worshippers who want to catch some rays but without the intense heat and humidity combination that come in the peak of summer, albeit you’ll still want to stick indoors in the peak of the day.

Many hotels, restaurants and seasonal attractions start winding down for summer over the course of May, so do check opening times and availability.

Dubai Sea Temperature in May

In May, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 28.7°C (83.7°F). Minimum sea temperatures in Dubai in May are 26.3°C (79.3°F) through to maximum sea temperatures by month end of 30.1°C (86.2°F).

This makes May one of the ideal months for enjoying beach weather in Dubai. Although surfaces and the sand at the beach can be intensely hot during the peaks of the day, you should get pleasant beach swimming conditions from late afternoon to evening. Waterparks are also a great attraction in May!

Other weather patterns that are common in Dubai in May

Unlike the cooler winter months, it is doubtful you will experience any rain during May in Dubai – though not absolutely unheard of! Definitely, no packing an umbrella just in case; just take cover! It will likely come in one heavy downpour, cause chaos on the roads, and then pass.

There is still a chance of sandstorms occurring in May though it’s unpredictable. You should expect at least 12 hours of sunshine and a UV Index of 8.

You can expect the lowest humidity of the year, albeit it can still feel quite intense, and the “feels like” temperature is often much higher than the air temperature.

What should I pack for May in Dubai?

You’re at the time of year in May when there’s little difference between your day and night wardrobe – resort wear if you’re at the beach, or something long lose and breathable out and about exploring.

You will only want a warmer pullover or cardigan if you plan to be indoors quite a bit, as the air-conditioning can be fierce no matter what time of year.

Of course, no matter the time of year, sunglasses, a sun hat and sunscreen are all essentials for your Dubai packing.

It’s getting hot and sweaty for a Dubai desert safari, but if you do head out, the overnight temperatures will still be quite hot – no jeans or long sleeves required. We recommend you pack closed-toed shoes to deal with the sand.

If you’ve stumbled upon this page, there’s a high chance you’re experiencing one of Dubai’s ultra-humid days and you’re looking for answers! There’s hot in Dubai, then there’s OMG what happened!

It feels like you’ve immediately stepped out of a sauna; your glasses fog up, condensation on your windows and that feeling of your clothing sticking to your body. There is limited relief anywhere outside in this sort of engulfing heat.

So what exactly causes this? And how often will you experience uncomfortably high humidity in Dubai?

Average humidity in Dubai

Dubai’s average humidity is around 60%. For the most part, it is a more manageable humidity year-round than say living in Singapore or any of the tropicals of south-east Asia.

The winter months in Dubai are actually slightly more humid than the summer, but it’s those searing hot & humid days of summer where heat & humidity combine that are most noticeable and difficult to deal with.

Although the numbers don’t seem to say it out loud when you look at Dubai forecasts, as residents we can assure you by far the most uncomfortable time of the year for temperatures & humidity is August & September.

Relief seems to come by mid-October, you will find a significant drop in day time highs and humidity.

Humidity in Dubai explained

Humidity is a measure of how much water vapour is in the air around us. The more moisture in the air, the higher the humidity. This is usually given as a relative humidity number – how much moisture is in the air as a % of the maximum amount of water vapour the air can hold.

How much moisture the air can hold depends on air temperature, hence a percentage is given rather than an absolute number.

Dubai is mistakenly thought of as being a “dry heat” because it’s in the desert but the Arabian Gulf waters are by far the more prevalent force.

The coastal areas of the United Arab Emirates, which includes the city of Dubai are more susceptible to humidity than inland areas such as Al Ain, or the mountainous regions of the Northern Emirates. This is because humidity comes from water evaporating from large bodies of water – in Dubai’s case, the waters from the Arabian Gulf. As air temperatures heat up, so does the sea causing more moisture to evaporate into the atmosphere.

In the cooler months, the higher humidity is what leads to fog which can be particularly prevalent in the early mornings.

Why does the humidity in Dubai make us feel so sweaty?

It comes down to how our bodies can deal with humidity. When humidity is relatively low but the temperature is high, we get hot, and we sweat it out. The moisture evaporates into the air and our own sweat cools us down.

When humidity is high , however, the sweat we create has no where to escape to; evaporation is much slower so it continues to ‘cling’ to us, making us feel much stickier and possibly overheated.

How can you cope with the high relative humidity in Dubai?

The key is to stay hydrated. If possible, avoid going outdoors and only exercise outdoors in high humidity if you understand the dangers involved.

So no – you are not imagining it at all! Although the temperatures in Dubai might look pretty consistent from one day to the next you really need to look at the relative humidity and feels like temperature before heading outdoors too.

How hot does it get in Dubai in July?

Dubai’s average day time maximum temperature in July is 41.3°C (106.3°F).

Dubai starts reaching its summer peak temperatures in July and there is little reprieve as temperatures don’t drop much between day and night. Maximum highs you can expect in July are 48.5°C (119.3°F) while overnight lows will only dip as far as 30.4°C (86.7°F). The average temperature in July is 33.3°C (92°F).

In July, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 32.7°C (90.9°F). The minimum sea temperature you may experience in July is around 30.8°C (89°F) but expect highs in the water around Dubai up to 34.7°C (92.9°F) by the end of July.

It’s really not the best time to plan a beach trip to Dubai. While overnight air temperature drops a little, the sea temperatures in the Arabian Gulf do not. You will be OK with a chilled resort pool, but you really won’t get much relief at the beach – and remember that sand is going to be exceptionally hot underfoot too.

Fear not though, there’s still plenty happening in July indoors.

Long daylight hours and high UV are the norm for July. Rain and sand storms are exceptionally rare at this time of year though you may find the city is shrouded in a significant heat haze which reduces visibility.

Humidity is not as high as in August but nonetheless, the “feels like” temperature which accounts for humidity and wind chill can regularly push over 50°C (122°F). As the month goes on the heat feels closer rather than a dry desert heat experienced further north in the Middle East.

What should I pack for July in Dubai?

In July you are packing for extreme heat. Sunhat, sunglasses and a good SPF sunscreen are essentials. Also bear in mind it can be freezing inside due to the intense air conditioning!

You will want long, loose clothing if you are out and about – cottons work best in the heat. Whilst indoors and evenings a shawl or cardigan might be needed.

If you plan to head on a desert safari in the evening you won’t need a jumper, though you may prefer closed-toe shoes as the sand can be intensely hot underfoot.

Dubai’s average daytime maximum temperature in February is 25.6°C/78°F.

Dubai’s mild winter does not last long and by month-end temperatures very much start shifting from mild to warm, albeit you can also potentially experience rain and thunderstorms on an odd day in February.

February in Dubai has historically ranged from average minimum temperatures of 15.6°C/60°F overnight, through to some extreme daytime highs of 37.5°C/99°F.

In February you should expect sea temperatures on average of 22.4°C/72.3°F (maximum sea temperatures are expected of 23.5°C/73.4°F through to a minimum 21.3°C/71.2°F).

It is the coldest time of the year in the water, so most hotels will have pool heaters on and it may feel a bit too cool for a dip in the ocean. Many water parks and hotels use this time of year for annual swimming pool maintenance. If this is an important part of your trip to Dubai, do check ahead for planned closures.

Fog is still a common occurrence in February as the air temperatures are cool and the atmosphere is clear, condensation forms resulting in low-lying fog, which normally burns off by mid-morning, though can take longer inland and into the desert.

The fog can make for some magical photos in amongst the highrises of Dubai (The Burj Khalifa morning sessions At The Top are popular for this reason!), but can also cause traffic chaos.

Fog can also be followed by dust, blown in by winds from the south and the Empty Quarter. A “perfect storm” can result in a fine layer of dust forming which then becomes muddy as the night fog rolls in again the following day! It can be a losing battle keeping things clean this time of year!

Dubai’s average day time maximum temperature in January is 24.2°C (76°F).

January is the coolest month of the year to visit Dubai, though day time highs can still reach as high as 31.8°C (89°F) with lows overnight averaging 14.6°C (58°F).

Days are typically clear and sunny but there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms – 8 hours a day of sunshine a day is forecast.

Dubai Sea Temperature in January

In January, you should expect sea temperatures on average of 23.9°C (75°F) (Maximum sea temperatures are expected of 25.9°C (77°F) through to a minimum 22°C (73°F).

This may be too cold for locals but tourists from the icy parts of the Northern Hemisphere still enjoy an ocean splash in January!

You will find the majority of hotels and resorts heat their pools to make it pleasant for tourists to go swimming year-round, so this shouldn’t stop your January plans for a holiday in the sun.

Other weather patterns that are common in Dubai in January

Fog can roll in which at times can cause chaos with transport. It’s not a regular occurrence but always something to be mindful of travelling to Dubai in January. When the fog is very thick the airports will need to close their runways.

It’s not unusual to experience winter rain showers in January, even quite heavy thunderstorms. 15mm falls in January on average, so packing an umbrella is probably an unnecessary extra item of luggage. If you’re unfortunate enough to be caught in the rain you may be able to borrow one from your hotel, but our advice is to sit it out inside if you can when a rainstorm hits, rarely do they last a long time.

Despite what you might read in news reports, the only snow you will find in Dubai is likely to be inside Ski Dubai. The parts of the country that get cold enough to experience this are in Ras al Khaimah, a different Emirate in the UAE.

Dubai’s day time maximum temperature in March is 28.7°C/83.7°F.

March sees quite a transition from the mild days of winter through to the heat of the desert summer – it’s a very short spring! Day time maximum temperatures can range from 23°C/73.5°F at the start of the month through to 28.7°c/83.7°F. The highest recorded maximum for March is 41.3°C/106F.

Days are typically bright and sunny with plenty of daylight hours, though rainstorms are still not unusual at this time of year – though hard to predict.

Overnight lows can be as cold as 11°C/52°F, the historical average minimum in March is 17.9°C/64°F. If you are heading out into the desert or walking outside at night it might still be cool enough to need a sweater or pullover in March.

Dubai Sea Temperature in March

In March you should expect sea temperatures on average of 23.6°C/74.5°F (maximum sea temperatures are expected of 25.5°C/76.4°F through to a minimum 21.7°C/72.6°F).

Most hotels and resorts will still be heating their swimming pools in March (do check this though if it’s an important part of your holiday in Dubai! Don’t be deceived by the sunshine, the water temperature in Dubai doesn’t start to really heat up until the end of April).

Although not a typically wet city, March is historically Dubai’s wettest month of the year. Late season thunderstorms can still be rolling through, and cloud seeding may occur. The average Dubai rainfall for March is 22.5mm.

We wouldn’t suggest packing an umbrella “just in case”, but if it rains it can pour! Best to sit it out for a few hours if this happens and you have no urgency to go anywhere as it can cause chaos on the roads.

March can bring with it some unexpectedly hot days too, especially as you approach April and the spring break holidays for many. We suggest planning to spend the very middle of your day indoors to beat the heat.
