A few things to note about rooftop bars in Dubai
AGE LIMITS: The legal drinking age in Dubai is 21, so most rooftop bars are restricted to those 21+ or have time limits for when those under age are permitted or must be with a guardian. Some nightclubs have an age limit of 25.
SMOKING: Laws in the UAE for smoking are not as strict as in other countries. Shisha smoking is a big thing and many bars will have a special shisha menu. Do note, it is prohibited to bring e-cigarettes into the country. Rules on their use are not explicit but generally accept it’s not allowed in public.
DRESS CODE: Most will enforce only a smart casual dress standard, normally being more restrictive on male dress than female (you can basically forget most of the things we told you here about conservative dress in Dubai when it comes to bars and nightclubs). During the day, however, you may find it’s more casual and shorts and t-shirts will be fine – we recommend you check with each venue though so you don’t get turned away at the door
ENTRY FEES: Most bars and restaurants allow free rooftop or terrace entry, on the basis that you will be purchasing food and drinks. The more nightclub driven rooftops may have entry fees, or for special events such as New Year or firework nights, there may be entry fees payable.

How to get to Dubai’s rooftop bars
Dubai’s best rooftop bars are spread all over the city. Some are accessible from the Dubai Metro, but the easiest way to get between locations at night is to use a public taxi, Careem or Uber which can be ordered from your phone or the hotel concierge at the venue can assist you.
The best time to visit Dubai’s rooftop bars
You best time to visit a rooftop bar in Dubai is in the late afternoon and around sunset to capture the best of Dubai turning from day to night. We only recommend for many rooftop bars visiting during the day if you have pool access as for most of the year you’ll find it pretty steamy on the rooftop.
In the middle of summer, do note, many hotels will close their rooftop terraces with big reopening parties happening around the end of September and into October.
Ramadan used to signal the end of party time as you hit the hotter months, but as summer creeps forward and Ramadan rules are becoming more flexible, this is not the case with most outdoor bars and terraces stretching their season even as far as June – but be warned even after dark this can be sweltering!
Information originally published January 2020, updates have been made as of November 2021. Always check with the venue prior to visiting in case there are special opening hours, restricted hours or changes in special offers.
