If you’d asked me just 15 years ago about staying in Dubai Marina, I probably would have laughed that it’s a bit far from the airport and a bit of a concrete jungle…

Well, times have changed, and yes, Dubai Marina IS some distance away from DXB (about 30 minutes in a taxi – no traffic); however, no longer a soulless concrete jungle, it has taken on a heart and soul of its own and is the perfect spot to base yourself for a longer vacation stay in Dubai, or if you simply like hanging out around amazing urban scenery and nightlife.

Where to Find Dubai Marina & How to Get Around

Dubai Marina sits on the Arabian Gulf coast to the west of Palm Jumeirah. It is 33kms away from DXB Airport, about 30 minutes off-peak along Sheikh Zayed Road E11, but it can take longer if there’s heavy traffic.

Dubai Marina Metro

You can get to Dubai Marina by Careem/Taxi, or it’s possible to access Dubai Marina from the Red Line Metro. The two most convenient stops are DMCC Station 1 and DAMAC Properties Metro, which also connect with the Dubai Tram.

Dubai Marina Tram

The Dubai Tram services the whole of the Dubai Marina area in a circular loop and then continues onward to Dubai Media City area and Knowledge Village. It can be a quick and convenient way to get from A to B – assuming it’s heading in the direction you need!

Otherwise, sometimes it can be quicker to tackle distances on foot; along the waterfront, you can avoid the traffic lights that the trams need to stop at.

The Dubai Tram is a convenient way to connect with the Palm Monorail, though note the Palm Monorail is privately operated by Nakheel, not part of the Dubai RTA transport system that uses Nol card, so separate (quite hefty) fees are applicable.

Where to Stay in Dubai Marina / JBR

The terms Dubai Marina and JBR area of the city might be used quite interchangeably, though there are some subtle differences. Dubai Marina refers to the area as a whole, whereas JBR – Jumeirah Beach Residence – is a series of buildings that sit between the marina and the beach. On the northern side of the Marina, you are in JBR.

Dubai Marina Apartments

The Dubai Marina area is best known for its offering of apart-hotels and Airbnb options which gives travellers a little more room and flexibility with kitchenettes and laundry facilities frequently on offer.

Dubai Marina Beach Resorts

So, on to the fun stuff! Whether you’ve chosen to stay in Dubai Marina or simply want to enjoy what’s on offer for a day or the evening, here are some Dubai Marina attractions and activities to seek out:

Dubai Marina Cruise

One of the main reasons tourists head to Dubai Marina is as a departure point for cruises onto the Arabian Gulf waters. There is a wide variety of companies offering cruise services, so you need to think about:

• How long do you want to be out on the water for?
• Size and speed of the craft (speed boat or a more sedate luxury cruise)
• How many people will be in your tour group?
• How far you want to go, some stay pretty close to the marina and the Palm, while others will make a much longer loop up to Burj Al Arab and further east along Jumeirah Beach.

Dubai Marina Mall

Much of the activity of Dubai Marina revolves around the Dubai Marina Mall—relatively small in Dubai terms, but a beautifully set-out shopping experience. You’ll find everything from your favourite beachwear brands to a big supermarket (ideal for grabbing a little gourmet picnic along the waterfront).

Dubai Marina Zipline

Fancy taking on XLine Dubai? The world’s longest urban zip line will see you soaring from Amwaj Towers back to Dubai Marina Mall at speeds up to 80km/hr. The tandem lines mean you can even race your friends and family for some of the city’s most incredible urban views.

The Walk & The Beach

Closely connected to Dubai Marina is the famous Dubai location of The Walk and The Beach. The Walk is a retail promenade with plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment options.

The Beach is the public beachfront for JBR, to stroll along the beach and pull up a towel is completely free. If you wish to take advantage of any of the dozens of leisure attractions along here, from Flying Cup sky-high dining (pictured) to the inflated obstacle course Aqua Fun, these come at an additional fee – as do the beach chairs with parasol.

Bluewaters Island

Bluewaters is situated close to Dubai Marina, though not directly connected. You can access Bluewaters on foot if you head to the very end of The Beach; there is a pedestrian walkway across the water to Bluewaters.

Alternatively, you can access Bluewaters by water taxi from Dubai Marina.

Bluewaters is home to a brand new dining and entertainment district as well as Ain Dubai – the largest observation wheel in the world – it’s a really fun new place to hand out with an ever-improving lineup of fun casual to fine dining choices.

Bluewaters is also home to Cove Beach, so if you’re staying in an apartment but would prefer to enjoy some private beachfront action away from the public crowds on The Beach, this is a top spot to head.

Should you include Dubai Marina on your Dubai Vacation?

Whether you plan to visit for a day or make Dubai Marina the base point of your Dubai vacation experience, you won’t be disappointed – it’s definitely worth the extra travel time to come to a newer part of the city.

Do make sure you make time to get beyond the city too, experience a day or evening trip into the desert, pop down to neighbouring Abu Dhabi and you’ll get a great all-round Dubai experience in the heart of the tourist action.

If you are not big into skyrises and urban lifestyle – that’s OK; we know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea – Dubai Marina may not be the best choice for you. Perhaps look into one of the city’s larger and more sprawling tropical beach resorts or check out accommodation in the older parts of Dubai around Bur Dubai and Dubai Creek.

UPDATE AS AT APRIL 2023: What looked like a partial redevelopment of the La Mer site in early 2023 now sees the entire site, including Laguna Water Park being bulldozed! We will update you with what will replace this fabulous little beach escape in Dubai. Rumor is it will be called J1 Beach and reopen in 2024.

La Mer is Dubai’s coolest beachfront that has everything from sunbathing on the beach to shopping, dining and entertainment, making it a ‘self-contained’ play-cation spot. It’s located in Jumeirah 1, along 2.5 kilometres of white sands, with palm-tree lined walkways and overlooking the pristine turquoise blue waters of the Arabian Gulf.

This urban beach is a perfect family destination offering a little getaway in the middle of the city.

What is La Mer Dubai?

With ample parking available across from the beachfront and underground, this place is open for residents and tourists throughout the year. Walking at La Mer, it’s easy to forget you are in Dubai, thanks to the beautiful urban landscape, the funky music playing in the background, the retro lights dotted around the place, the graffiti-like murals on walls and pavement, and the overall beach vibe.

You see a harmonious blend of urban and contemporary design, which is sustainable at the same time, in the form of rustic metal, washed-off timber and boats, fishing nets and woven ropes dotted around the place.

La Mer Dubai is split into four sections; the Beach, the central leisure and entertainment hub; Laguna, the North Island and the South Island. The Beach is where you get to soak up the sun and catch some waves, while the wide-open boardwalks are perfect for some strolling.

Stretched along the North and South Islands are ample dining options, entertainment facilities for the kids and grownups, and many shopping opportunities. With so much to keep the family occupied for an entire day, La Mer is a one-stop place for lots of fun, one of our top recommended places to visit in Dubai.

Top 5 things to do at La Mer

1. Head for the Beach

Grab your sunscreen and spend your day at the beachfront, soaking up the sun with sand in your toes. Simply lounge by the beachside cabanas with uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf or engage in some thrilling water play and beach sports. At the North Island beach, you get to do activities like Flyboarding, Jetskiing, Wakeboarding, Wakesurfing. Head to the South Beach and participate in rental activities such as Standup Paddle, Waterbike, Pedalo, Kayaking and other float rentals.

Access to the beach for the public is free. If you are looking to rent yourself a sunbed or two, head to the Sea Breeze kiosk. Alternatively, go for a more premium experience and book a luxury air-conditioned Day room for the entire family, complete with a mini-fridge and private terrace.

Stop by Watersports by First Yacht for fun, memorable and supervised water-based activities for the whole family to enjoy from stand-up paddle boarding to more high-adrenaline jet skiing and flyboarding.

Although La Mer Beach remains open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm from Sunday to Wednesday and from 10:00 am to 12:00 am from Thursday to Saturday, you are allowed to swim only till sunset.

2. Take a stroll along boardwalk

La Mer is easily one of the city’s best selfie spots. The focus here isn’t just on the beach and the food outlets but also on the decorative art, graffiti-inspired features on the buildings and pavements and rustic elements around the stretch of the boardwalk.

Almost everywhere you look, you will be surrounded by an ‘open-air canvas’ and want to strike a pose for a picture. Try to spot fishes painted on manholes, Arabic phrases such as ‘Yalla Habibi’ and ‘Aloo Keefak’ on wall murals, hopscotch painted on tarmac, and painted wings on walls for some instagrammable shots.

There’s even a water pond for visitors to throw a coin and make a wish, shallow water features to walk across and sandy playground areas for the kids to burn off some energy.

The Central section of La Mer seems gives the feel of having emerged straight out of a dystopian novel, with rusty pipes, cobbled pavements, worn-out drums, wooden barrels and wooden crates placed around. The industrial vibes you get here are opposite to the vibrant sea-side charm you get on other parts of the boardwalk. Along the shore you will find beautifully colourful beach huts, vibrant surf boards, parked wooden fishing boats and tumbling water buckets.

There’s plenty to see and play along on this urban playground, and should your feet become weary, you’ll find a Rolls Royce styled cart to usher you back to your car or hotel.

3. Splash at Laguna Water Park

The Laguna waterpark is an ultimate family destination offering a whole day’s fun while you splash and slide. It includes thrilling slides, the region’s star attraction ‘WaveOz 180 FlowRider’ for the surf enthusiasts, a dedicated kids splash zone for the little ones, and the ultimate laidback lazy river.

You can also relax in luxury cabanas on the waterfront, enjoy a dip in the waterpark’s beautiful infinity pool, complete with a swim-up juice bar and experience rooftop dining with panoramic views over the Arabian Gulf at the Bungalow.

A day pass entry to Laguna Water Park starts from as little as AED 99 for UAE residents, with access to unlimited food & beverage. Children under the age of 2 enter for free. The day pass also allows you access to the waterpark multiple times a day, which means you can stroll out for a quick bite and be back to surf once again in no time!

In the cooler winter months, there’s even the option to camp out at Laguna Waterpark! A not-to-be-missed fun glamping experience in the city.

Laguna Waterpark is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Tickets can be booked on the spot or purchased online with more savings.

It is advisable to check their website for news on seasonal closure (usually around Jan-Feb, re-opening in time for Spring school break and open all through the hottest months of summer).

4. Bounce at Hawa Hawa

‘Hawa Hawa’ translates to ‘Jump for Joy’, an exciting inflatable playground concept for the young and young-at-heart. Originating from Japan, this playground has a series of dune-shaped peaks for low-impact jumping and high-intensity fun.

20 minutes play is charged at AED 30. 40 minutes of play is charged at AED 45. The park is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and 10:00 AM to Midnight on weekends.

5. Catch a movie at Roxy Cinema

Movie lovers will love watching their favourite blockbuster movie at this boutique-like picture house. Although the screens are on the smaller side, with only 20-something seats available, Roxy Cinema offers a unique “bistro lounge experience” with the option of meals brought to you inside the cinema, as you dine on their cozy, luxurious leather recliner chairs.

What Dining options are available at La Mer?

La Mer brings to you cuisines from all over the world, making the decision on where to dine an absolutely difficult one. Whether you are looking for classic American, authentic Indian, urban Japanese or gourmet Meditteranean, there are over 30 mouth-watering gastronomic options for everyone at La Mer. Think bubble tea, camel milk drinks, rainbow sliders and liquid nitrogen-infused frozen Cheetos.

While most don’t service alcohol, there are a few limited restaurants that are licensed to do so.

As you stroll along the waterfront, you will also find lots of cafes, dessert bars and ice cream parlours, inviting you in with their interesting and diverse menus. La Mer truly has so much to discover in the world of flavour, making it a paradise for foodies.

Can I do some shopping at La Mer?

Walk along the stretch of La Mer and discover shops and beach boutiques selling beautiful brands and accessories. For the beachgoers, there are stores, homegrown and international labels, selling a stylish range of swimsuits and kaftans, fun beach accessories and giant inflatables to laze around in. Other stores bring you edgy streetwear with urban designs, striking accessories, statement watches and so much more.

There are a few mini-marts selling water, drinks and snacks in case all the strolling leaves you parched.

Where can I stay at La Mer?

Make the most of Dubai’s iconic La Mer, by staying over at Rove La Mer located along the sunny shores. With such close proximity you will never miss out on soaking up the sun, exploring the restaurants and strolling along the colourful boardwalk. Step out a little further and discover what more Dubai’s most historic and best-loved neighbourhoods, Jumeirah, has to offer.

Rove La Mer is a 10-minute drive from the Dubai Financial Centre, The Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera House and Burj Khalifa. It is also a 20-minute drive from another favourite spot in Dubai, JBR – Jumeirah beach Residences.

Other facilities at La Mer

La Mer Dubai is a well-thought-out location with many clean toilets and changing rooms close to the beach and dotted around the stretch. You will also find here baby changing rooms, prayer rooms, ATMs, money exchange centres, bus and taxi stops, and information desks.

Where to find La Mer

La Mer Dubai is located in Jumeirah 1, between Pearl Jumeirah and Jumeirah Bay.

• If taking the RTA bus, you can take the bus number 8, 9 or 88 that make multiple stops along Jumeirah Beach Road and walk towards the beach.

• You can also take a taxi and will be dropped off close to the North Island entrance of La Mer Dubai. There is no direct access via the Dubai Metro.

• Many hotels, including Rove La Mer, also provide a shuttle bus service to this location.

• There is no direct access to La Mer via the local Metro service. The nearest Metro station is Financial Centre, which is a 10-minute drive away, you’d still need to complete your journey by taxi.

To arrive by car, you need to drive towards Jumeriah Road.

• If you are coming from the direction of Abu Dhabi, you need to drive past Mercato Shopping Mall, turn left onto 39A street, and follow the signs to 2A Street, where the entrance to La Mer North is situated.

• If you’re coming from the direction of Sharjah, you need to drive past Etihad Museum and Jumeirah Mosque on Jumeirah Street, and then turn right onto 2A Street.

There is plenty of free parking on the ground floor. However, the underground parking here is chargeable at AED 20 per hour. If visitors dine or shop at any La Mer restaurants or stores worth AED 100, they can avail free parking for four hours by validating their parking voucher.

Valet Parking is also available with charges starting at AED 50.

Overlooking the Arabian Gulf (Persian Gulf), JBR The Beach is an open outdoor ‘mall’, and home to a cinema, well-known shopping brands, and restaurants – as well as the name might suggest a stunning beach. On the other hand, The Walk at JBR is a stretch of luxury boutiques, stores, and alfresco dining options along the entire length of JBR.

Get the family together and try to stay dry on AquaFun, an inflatable floating obstacle course set up in the middle of the sea in the shape of I Love Dubai.

The little ones can also have some fun in the sun with dedicated splash parks and park areas for them, there’s the Splash Pad children’s playground as well as the newly opened Splash n Party.

No matter what you are craving, JBR Beach caters to everyone’s appetite – in fact there are over 40 dining outlets just at The Beach! The eccentric range of menus means you will be tasting food from around the globe while enjoying stunning views of the beach, Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai.

There’s Eggspectations for all-day breakfast options, flavoursome Indian at Bombay Bungalow, hearty Turkish for the meat lovers at Bosphorus, and even seafood classics at Aprons and Hammers. Even those with a sweet tooth will be spoilt for choice when choosing between waffles at Morelli’s Gelatos or the sweet buns at Papa Roti.

A unique experience to look out for is Flying Cup – sky-high drinks and dining at 40m in the air!

Feel like escaping the heat for a bit? Head over to Roxy Cinemas JBR, and choose between the latest Hollywood, Bollywood, and Arabic movies. The cinema is located next to Adventure HQ, and operates from 11:00 am to 1:00 am – this is the perfect midday retreat, or unwind after a long day in the sun.

As far as training goes, it won’t get much better than working out against a beautiful backdrop of the beach and Bluewaters Island, followed by a refreshing swim. The Warehouse Gym located at The Beach in JBR comes with an outdoor setup consisting of a CrossFit rig, rope climbs, kettlebells, rowing machines, and jump boxes.

Make the most of the lovely Dubai winters and get your ‘fitspiration’ by training at this outdoor gym. You can book a one-off gym session with the on-site staff to assist you, or join one of the group classes, which include commando circuit classes, spinning and CrossFit. One-time classes start at AED 105.

Grab your camera and go on a discovery trail for some seriously cool 3D Street art. 2. Cycle along The Walk

Similar to JBR The Beach, you will be spoilt for choices when it comes to dining options from around the globe. With the tables and chairs littering the pavements, you can enjoy Dubai’s beautiful weather by dining outside while overlooking the stunning sea. From noodle shops to charming cafes and healthy dining eateries, this place is lovely and reminiscent of the European al fresco dining scene.

The Walk at JBR is always bustling with national and international skilled artists, entertaining you with their shows and talents. The events can change depending on the festival and season, but to give you an idea of some of the things you can expect are street performances, sand sculptures, and photography displays.

How to Get to JBR

JBR is easily accessible by car. If travelling from Dubai, take the Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) to Jebel Ali. Then take Garn Al Sabka Street (D59W) and continue to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street (D94) until you find signs to JBR.

If travelling from Abu Dhabi, take the Ghweifat Highway (E11) towards Dubai. Then take Exit 29 to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street (D94). Continue on until you see signs to JBR.

Parking for the public is limited along the JBR walk. However, there are hourly paid green parking zones and also some parking spots along JBR The Walk. If visiting JBR The Beach, you can avail yourself of three hours of free parking at the underground mall parking when you spend AED 100 or more at any participating outlet, Roxy Cinemas and/or Sea Breeze.

Valet parking service is also available for AED 55 (standard) and AED 110 (VIP) per day per vehicle.

If you are using the Dubai Metro, take the Red Line and step off at station 23, Dubai Marina Metro Station. From here you can cross over to the Dubai Tram and board the tram heading to Jumeirah Lakes Towers. You can get off the Dubai Tram at either Station 1 (Jumeirah Beach Residence 1) or Station 2 (Jumeirah Beach Residence 2).

If you are looking to take the RTA public bus, numbers 8 and 84 will take you directly to JBR.

Taxies in the area are plentiful, with several taxi zones along The Walk and in the Dubai Marina area.

Where to Stay in JBR

There is a fabulous array of accommodation options in and around JBR. Most offer apartment-style accommodation making it very popular with families looking for resort-style facilities but cooking amenities and separate bedrooms.

Not all hotels and resorts are technically part of JBR but to a visitor, they will all come across as the same area.

OK, we’re technically cheating here, there are a few stunning, sprawling beach resorts that sit at the eastern end of JBR. Le Royal Meridien is one of these, sitting at the very start of The Walk, so we’re counting it!

With stunning landscaped gardens, a beachfront boardwalk, rooms boasting either Gulf or Marina views, a fitness centre and spa, three swimming pools, a kids club – even a crazy golf course! This is one of Dubai’s best beachfront offerings in an ultra-convenient location near Dubai’s top tourist attractions. If budget permits, book it (or next door Ritz-Carlton, you can’t go wrong)!

Best Hotel Apartment – Doubletree by Hilton

The upscale hotel is a suites-only property sitting at the opposite end of The Walk, closer to Bluewaters. Each suite at Doubletree features private balconies, marina or sea views, and a separate living room. Depending on suite size (1 to 3 bedrooms), some include a full kitchen and laundry facilities too.

Guests can enjoy a range of dining options, coffee, and poolside happy hours as well as private beach access with cabanas. The ocean-front infinity pool, Wellness Spa, and fitness centre are also drawcards for families and business visitors alike.

Best for singles & Couples – Rixos Premium Dubai

If you want to hang out in the life of the party, Rixos on the beachside of The Walk is your go-to.

The property hosts 11 bars and restaurants as well as Azure Beach, one of the trendiest beach clubs in Dubai, known for its glamorous pool parties. There are two family pools and a semi-Olympic-sized pool for adults, along with a great range of retail and dining opportunities.

Best for budget family travellers along JBR – Roda Amwaj Suites

There are many hotels and residences that sit inside JBR proper – that is, the big strip of sandy-coloured buildings opposite The Beach.

Roda Amwaj Suites consistently comes out as one of the cheapest every time we search. The rooms are basically on par anywhere you stay along JBR – the whole complex was built at the same time, so why is there such a differential in pricing? It can only be the brand name attached and extra services you may not need.

If you want a spacious longer-term stay with no thrills, just big, clean rooms and the convenience of being in the centre of The Walk, you’ll have no problems with Roda Amwaj Suites.

Best Budget Stay – Bombay Backpackers DXB

A hostel in Dubai? Yes! It’s not that common to find, but there are some good, reputable backpacker hostels to find in Dubai. Granted, it may not be as cheap as other parts of Asia, but from around AED 80 a night ($22 USD), this is as budget as you’ll get.

Bombay Backpackers DXB has a great reputation as it’s situated within JBR itself on the 18th floor, offering waterfront views in the heart of the action. Mixed dorms and single-sex dorms of 6 to 12 are offered with clean linens, a common room and a games room. No breakfast is included, but access to a fridge, kitchen facilities, washing machine, and swimming pools is in JBR.

Situated along the west coast of Deira, Al Mamzar Beach Park is undeniably one of the most scenic beaches out there in Dubai. Covering an area of 106 hectares, this beach-front park has a variety of recreational areas to ensure every member of the family will have a good time.

What makes this beach-park standout, even more, is the incorporation of some ‘smart moves’ to facilitate the experience for visitors.

Inaugurated in 1984, with five separate beaches and acres of green lawn, it’s easy to see why this beach has been a family favourite in Dubai for many years. Close to the bustle of the city, the beach park offers an escape, as you dip your feet into the salty waters of the Arabian Gulf, or unpack a picnic basket on the grassy lawns to enjoy with your family and friends.

Things to do in Al Mamzar Beach Park

You will be surprised at how much there is to do at Al Mamzar Beach Park – much more than just a beach!

Take your pick and relax at one of the five beaches, overlooking pristine blue sea waters as you soak up the sun. Sit by the rocky bay and you may be able to spot marine crabs scuttling along and starfishes being washed close to the shore.

Join in with the kids, and together build sandcastles and collect seashells. If you feeling adventurous, explore underwater marine life by trying a bit of snorkelling, or rent one of the jet skis and feel the adrenaline running through your body.

Some of you may be keen on swimming but don’t want to get sand in your hair. Well, in that case, head for the shaded swimming pool for some splashing. Lifeguards are present at the pools and beaches, ensuring your safety always.

As with most beaches in Dubai, you are not allowed to swim after sunset.

Picnicking and barbecuing at Al Mamzar Beach Park

Apart from its untouched natural beaches, Al Mamzar Beach Park is famously known for its stretches of grassy lawns, dotted with families having a picnic. You too can grab a shaded spot and set up your picnic, or head to the designated barbecue areas with your gear for some charcoal grilling.

In case you’ve run out of supplies and need refuelling, there are several food kiosks and cafeterias serving tasty snacks and drinks to keep you going.

Play and sports facilities at Mamzar Beach

There’s plenty to keep the children busy and enjoy the outdoors. The designated kids’ play area, the football and basketball courts, the skateboard park, and also the opportunity to rent a bike, will surely keep them entertained for hours.

However, an all-time favourite (and not just for the children!) has to be the mini-train ride. It’s a child-friendly train running slowly along its dedicated track, taking you around the park as you enjoy the landscaped park, beach, and much more.

You will also find a running track and winding paths for those who wish to jog or take a breezy stroll.

It is important to note that pets are not allowed at Al Mamzar Beach Park. Also, campfires and shisha are not permitted, and any barbecues must take place only in the designated areas in the park. As with other parks, alcohol and smoking are prohibited, and beachwear must be strictly adhered to only at the beach.

Smart Park facilities at Al Mamzar

Al Mamzar Beach Park is the first Smart Park in Dubai, with many ‘smart’ 21st-century amenities to ensure you are able to stay safe and connected with your loved ones while having a good time at the park.

Starting from the entrances, ‘Smart Gates’ allow you to access using your RTA Nol cards, and therefore avoid queuing up for an entry ticket.

The strange palm tree-like structures that you may spot in the park are in fact, ‘Smart Trees’  or ‘Smart Palms, ’ allowing you to charge your phone and connect to Wifi while offering some shade. A similar function is also available at the ‘Smart Benches’, again without the use of any USB cables.

With the children running around, wouldn’t it be amazing if you could track their whereabouts? Well, with the ‘Smart Watches’, you can. This waterproof smartwatch with GPS can be paired with smartphones to help families keep track of their children and people of determination inside the park.

By the beach, you simply must spot the two ‘Smart Oasis’, which using solar power, can harvest humid air and convert it into about 90 litres of drinking water daily.

Other such ‘smart’ moves include:

• Smart Paint to absorb carbon dioxide and reduce the air pollution in the area.

• Smart Drones to analyse the health and growth of plants in the park.

• Smart Containers to move around the park while clearing litter.

• Smart Rescue to spot drowning situations from above via a drone and alert a lifeguard.

Chalet services at Al Mamzar

If you are planning to spend the entire day at Al Mamzar Beach Park, renting a Chalet would be a good idea. These air-conditioned, semi-furnished terracotta tiled ‘huts’ come with a shower, designated barbecue area, and a picnic bench, offering families the privacy and basic amenities to ensure a good time, and have a little party in the park.

Chalets need to be booked beforehand, and are available:

• On weekdays (Sunday to Wednesday) from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

• On weekends (Thursday to Saturday), and public holidays, from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm.

There are 15 chalets located at Al Mamzar Beach Park, with two of them designed specifically for people of determination. The chalets come in two sizes, large and small. You can rent the large chalet with a capacity to hold 12 people for AED 200 per day, while the smaller one holds up to 8 people and is for 150 AED per day.

Other facilities at Al Mamzar Beach Park

Al Mamzar Beach Park is equipped with clean toilets, changing rooms, baby changing facilities, free WiFi, phone charging stations, and prayer rooms.

Not all, but many areas within the beach park, including the swimming pool, are accessible to people of determination.

Al Mamzar Beach Park opening hours:

The Al Mamzar Beach Park is open every day for members of the public. However, Monday and Wednesday are reserved for ladies and children (boys aged under the age of 6) only.

The opening hours are:

• Sunday to Wednesday: from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm

• Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays: from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm

• During the month of Ramadan, park timings are from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm for all.

Al Mamzar Park Entrance fees:

You will have to pay a small fee to enter Al Mamzar Beach Park, similar to many other parks in Dubai.

• A single person’s entry ticket is 5 AED.

• Children under the age of 2 and People of Determination enter for free.

• An entry ticket for a car is AED 30. This includes parking within the park. You will have to make the payment using the RTA issued Nol card, so it’s a good idea to have your card topped up with sufficient credit.

Other fees within Al Mamzar

Whilst you are able to use all the facilities of the park including the beaches and BBQ after paying the small entry fee, there are some activities within Al Mamzar Beach Park that cost extra:

• Swimming pool: Adults 10 AED and children 5 AED, per hour.

• Jet Ski (operating 9:00 am to 6:00 pm):  Adults – 150 AED for 30 minutes and 250 AED for 1 hour.

• Train ride: 2 AED per person

How to reach Mamzar Beach

Al Mamzar Beach Park is located northeast of Dubai, in the Al Mamzar district of the city. It is closely bordering Sharjah, the third-largest city of UAE.

• Al Mamzar Beach Park is approximately 20 minutes from Dubai Downtown, and almost 45 minutes from Marina.

• If coming by car or taxi, you need to head towards Al Mamzar, or Century Mall, and make your way towards the shore. There is plenty of external parking available.

• If you are taking the bus, you need to take the C28 which will take you directly to the Mamzar Beach bus stops.

• If taking the Metro, the nearest metro station is Al Qiyadah on the green line towards Rashdiya. From the metro station, Al Mamzar Beach Park is approximately six kilometres away. If you are up for the walk, make your way through the streets or alternatively, take a taxi to your destination.

• Alternatively, you can catch the Green Metro Line to Salah Al Din station near Reef Mall and just outside the east exit is a bus stop where you can catch the C28 bus.

• You need to show your Emirates ID or international passport if you want Jet Ski in Dubai.

• Age limit is 16+ years old; an adult should accompany any riders below age 18.

1. You should be fully equipped; that is, you must have first aid and safety gear, you should be wearing a life jacket, goggles, helmet, and should have a whistle.

This child-friendly park sits in the heart of Dubai’s bustling entertainment zone, The Beach at JBR. Here you’ll find a shaded splash park and play area for your little ones to cool off, no matter the time of year in Dubai.

The park isn’t huge but it’s great for your under 6’s crowd, children up to 12 can join in.
