Atlantis, the Palm

Atlantis, The Palm is hard to top if you’re scouring for the best hotels in Dubai for kids. The endless experiences on offer make the 5-star resort feel like a playground for families, with new levels of fun.

Spectacularly situated at the end of Palm Jumeirah, the hotel’s Aquaventure waterpark (free to visit as a hotel guest) is a must for families visiting Dubai; it even features a slide through a shark tank!

Jumeirah Beach Hotel

Jumeirah Beach Hotel is one of the best hotels in Dubai for families with children, who make up the majority of the clientele. The 5-star hotel has a private stretch of beach along the Arabian Gulf and over a dozen restaurants and bars offering international cuisine.

The spacious rooms and suites include floor-to-ceiling, ocean-view windows. Studio-style family rooms and family two-bedroom suites are available. All guests receive complimentary and unlimited access to the adjacent Wild Wadi Waterpark, a favourite with kids.

Another nice feature for younger children is the on-site activity centre, which features a climbing wall, musical instruments, and a kid’s club with a water play area.

Jumeirah Al Naseem Madinat Jumeirah

The best Dubai hotels for families include Jumeirah Al Naseem, the newest and most modern hotel within the huge Madinat Jumeirah complex. Direct beach access, upmarket dining and spa facilities, and fancy rooms, including family setups and interconnecting rooms.

The Wild Wadi Waterpark is under a 10-minute walk away, and tickets are included with every guest’s stay. Jumeirah Al Naseem also runs a Kid’s Club with indoor and outdoor playgrounds and fun activities. A free shuttle service from DXB aids a stress-free arrival and departure, which is wonderful when travelling as a family.

Grand Hyatt Dubai

Unlike most of Dubai’s resort hotels, which line the beachfront, the Grand Hyatt Dubai is centrally located at the edge of the city’s historic creek, overlooking the sparkling Dubai skyline. The hotel has an exclusive feel yet features that cater to all ages, making it one of the best family hotels in Dubai.

The elegant accommodations with Arabic details include family suites and interconnecting rooms. Babysitting services are available if adults fancy slipping out for dinner at one of over a dozen on-site restaurants.

Kids will also love the free popsicles routinely handed out by staff around the pool. The Kid’s Club and outdoor pools for kids and adults provide plenty of daytime entertainment, plus the huge atrium is an interesting addition, especially for your littlest ones. The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi is a 5-star luxury resort with its own 550-yard private beach nearby, offering views of the Palm Jumeirah. As with many of the best hotels in Dubai for families, The Westin is located close to the exciting Wild Wadi Waterpark, though in-house guests can now enjoy the incredible new Jungle Bay Water Park within the hotel grounds!

The hotel is adjacent to Le Meridien and shares many of the excellent facilities of Club Mina. Families can take advantage of the kids’ pool and kids’ club, which offer daily beach games for participation.

Chic Deluxe rooms with 2 Queen beds and Family Suite Sea View Rooms can comfortably accommodate families. A choice of 8 restaurants makes family mealtimes easy, with special menus included for children. One&Only Royal Mirage

The One&Only Royal Mirage is one of the best Dubai hotels for families seeking an ultra-luxury 5-star stay. The property stretches along a pristine length of Jumeirah Beach and is made up of three gorgeous hotels: Arabian Court, The Palace, and the Residences & Spa.

The immaculate gardens, dramatic Arabesque architecture, and decorative Arabian details are stunning. Impeccable facilities include four swimming pools, a spa with a hammam, a Kids Club, and two playgrounds.

Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm

Another of the best hotels in Dubai for kids is the elegant Waldorf Astoria, situated on the eastern crescent of the Palm Jumeirah. Families can enjoy 200 meters of palm-peppered private beach and a range of dining options from Arabian to International.

A shuttle service is available for easy visits to nearby attractions; the popular Aquaventure Waterpark is just five minutes away. The brilliant facilities for youngsters include a kids’ pool, Coco’s Kids Club, and babysitting services. Family Deluxe Suites and Deluxe rooms, both of which boast sea views, feature 2 queen beds.

Roda al Murooj Residences

Roda al Murooj Residences is the best Dubai hotel for kids and parents looking for a more independent stay, with apartments of up to three bedrooms, immediately adjacent to Dubai Mall.

Each unit is self-catered with a kitchen including a fridge and oven, and the facilities of a hotel such as a 24-hour front desk, fitness centre, sauna and hot tub.

A buffet breakfast and a car rental counter for family trips out are also available. Kids will love the garden, year-round outdoor pool and children’s playground – the good news for parents is they stay for free. Complimentary cots and infant beds are available.

InterContinental Dubai Festival City

Intercontinental Dubai Festival City is set up to be one of the best hotels for kids in Dubai. It’s located around 15 minutes out of Downtown Dubai and only 10 minutes from Dubai International Airport – a superb option if you are only on a short stopover to Dubai and want to stay near DXB Airport.

The hotel offers exclusive access to the Dubai Festival City Mall which has over 500 retail stores for family shopping, and the eye-catching IMAGINE water, laser, light and fire spectacle that will have kids’ eyes goggling (as well as Fontana Circus this winter).

The 30-yard outdoor pool is a highlight for kids, with panoramic views of Dubai Creek. A children’s pool and babysitting or childcare service will also allow parents to sneak in a spa session. Don’t miss one amazing feature- if you dare! – an entirely glass infinity pool that dangles over the edge of the hotel!

Doubletree by Hilton Jumeirah Beach

Doubletree has a great location on Jumeirah Beach’s ”The Walk’ waterfront promenade. Spacious one, two, and three-bedroom suites come with private balconies, and some have fully equipped kitchens and sea views.

Kids will be won over early on with the welcome DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie upon arrival, not to mention the children’s pool, private sandy beach and kid-friendly menus in a choice of restaurants.

Doubletree is one of the last high-rise hotels along The Beach waterfront of JBR, which puts it right next to the bridge over to Bluewater Island and all the eateries and entertainment on offer (including the soon-to-reopen Ain Dubai Ferris wheel). For convenience and facilities, this makes it one of the best beachfront hotels in Dubai for families.

LEGOLAND^® Hotel Dubai 

Tell us a youngster who wouldn’t love staying in a themed room at Legoland with tickets to their favourite theme park? Newly opened in 2022, Legoland^® Dubai Hotel is the third hotel to open as part of the Dubai Parks & Resorts complex in Jebel Ali, to the west of Dubai city centre.

The 250 colourfully decorated rooms come in five different Lego themes and can sleep families of up to five in one room. On-site, there is a swimming pool, splash pad, and plenty of character meet-and-greets with themed activities.

This is one of the best family-friendly hotels in Dubai for young guests; broadly, your 4-year-old to 10-year-old age group would benefit the most.

Also consider: If staying in the Lego-themed rooms isn’t a priority for your youngsters, the other two options for Dubai Parks & Resorts are the excellent value Rove at the Park with a shuttle to the theme parks, or our favourite is Lapita, Autograph Collection, the Polynesian themed resort with excellent pools and lazy river

Centara Mirage Beach Resort Dubai

This Thai-inspired hotel recently opened in the Deira Islands, a sensational all-inclusive family resort option to consider on your trip to Dubai. During your stay, kids will have access to the on-site waterpark and adventure park with slides and rope courses, or why not indulge in the family spa?

You won’t want to leave your hotel, as you’re spoilt with three swimming pools, five on-site restaurants, and many of the 600+ rooms that come fitted with bunk beds! We love that they offer meal plans and even all-inclusive packages.

Deira Islands is one of the latest areas of Dubai to be developed. It’s not far from DXB Airport and the Dubai Creek Area, and Downtown is also easy to access by taxi.

JA The Resort

A less obvious choice for visitors to Dubai is to head west of the city’s main hotel and resort areas to the coastal resort complex JA The Resort. This sprawling complex at Jebel Ali Beach comprises three hotel resorts packed with family activities. You can book family suites and meal packages, including all-inclusive, for the perfect relaxing family vacation on the Arabian Gulf.

Activities on offer vary from water skiing and water sports to horse riding; indulge in a round of golf, try your shooting skills, have a hit on the tennis courts or simply relax at one of the 25 bars and restaurants. It’s one of our top recommended resorts for older children who love their holiday activities.

The only disadvantage we would note is that the resort is more remote than the others we’ve listed here, so you are not connected to the public transportation system in Dubai and will incur a decent taxi or Careem/Uber fare wherever you’re headed.

If it’s a resort with everything your family could desire in one location, and you simply want to enjoy the abundant sunshine of Dubai, this could be the best value family resort choice in Dubai.

Bab al Shams Desert Resort

Bab al Shams is a little different and the best hotel in Dubai for families craving a luxurious Middle East escape. The hotel is constructed around an oasis, encircled by natural landscapes and 50 minutes from the bustle of Downtown Dubai in Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.

Despite its more remote location, this unique resort offers plenty to do: three outdoor pools, a kid’s pool, the Aladin’s Kid’s Club (ages 4-12), and an adventure playground.

Children under 12 stay free, and younger kids can enjoy Sinbad’s Kids’ Club and a separate shaded pool. Families can have an adventure exploring the surrounding desert by jeep, horse or camel. Cribs, rollaway beds and connecting rooms are available upon request.

Dubai hotels with water park access

Families staying at the following hotels will get access to one of Dubai’s three largest water parks. These can be a great value when you factor in the cost of a single day at a water park + accommodation and transport costs within the city.

However, consider how much value you will get from staying at one of these attached hotels; of course, the complimentary ticket cost is included in your nightly rate. If you plan to do plenty of things other than just the water park on a trip to Dubai, you may lose some of the value of staying at an attached property for a premium.

We won’t provide exact pricing for each hotel and waterpark ticket, as it changes frequently – you will often find special package offers, particularly during the summer low season.

Jumeirah Group Hotels – Wild Wadi

Wild Wadi Waterpark is attached to the iconic Jumeirah Beach Hotel. However, guests at any of the Jumeirah group hotels in Dubai can take advantage of a free ticket to Wild Wadi. This includes guests staying beachside at:

• Burj Al Arab
• Jumeirah Al Naseem
• Jumeirah Al Qasr
• Jumeirah Beach Hotel
• Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf
• Jumeirah Mina A’Salam
• Jumeirah Zabeel Saray – Palm Jumeirah

As well as their city properties Jumeirah Creekside Hotel and Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Each of these hotels is exquisite, but they come with a hefty price tag, too (and not all have brilliant room configurations for families without upgrading to much larger suites).

Of all the Jumeirah group hotels, we’d generally recommend Jumeirah Beach Hotel for its incredibly extensive family facilities.

Our next favourite pick for family facilities is Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, located on the outer frond of the Palm Jumeirah. The poolside facilities here are excellent and include a mini water park feature with several slides.

6 Dubai Hotels With Water Parks and Slides

Al Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection

Sitting at the eastern end of JBR Beach, Al Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection is a lush beachside oasis bursting with surprises. As well as the three family swimming pools and a kids’ playground, you will find a small waterfall and two incredible slides.

Grand Hyatt Dubai

Not often thought about, as it does not sit along the Arabian Gulf beachfront like most, the Grand Hyatt certainly delivers on family entertainment. Nestled on Dubai Creek, it is conveniently close to the airport, making it an excellent choice for short stopover and fly-through guests who want to enjoy a bit of the Dubai weather en route.

You can expect to find three swimming pools – including one of the largest pools in Dubai, an indoor pool, and a kids-only pool with a giant splash playground and slides. Plenty of flexible room layouts accommodate family-sized groups and offer a choice of 10 restaurants.

Important note in 2025: They are massively expanding the pool and family facilities here to include a complete water park. Great news for future stays, but this means presently the main kids’ pool is shut for renovations. Please bear this in mind before booking this resort!

Centara Mirage Dubai

What can we say about Centara?! Arguably THE Dubai hotel is entirely built with families in mind. You’ll find not just a mini water park with slides in this Deira Islands hotel but a lazy river, ropes course and a water obstacle course set out on the beachfront.

The family-friendliness of this Dubai resort doesn’t stop there; many rooms are fitted with bunk beds to fit all the family in one room, 5 on-site restaurants to choose from, a family spa where kids are welcome, and elusive all-inclusive packages are available.

Le Meridien & the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi

A beachfront offering that will blow the kids away. Here you will find an incredible 1.2km long beachfront, a lush garden setting with five swimming pools – two dedicated to families and access to Club Mina with a sensational range of recreational sports on offer and Kids Club.

A new addition sees Jungle Bay Water Park at Mina Seyahi enter the lineup. The Lighthouse, Whizzard and Body Slides are perfect for junior thrill-seekers or try Family Waves, a pneumatic wave pool, along with Aquapla, perfect for kids of all ages.

Sofitel Dubai The Palm

The Sofitel is a superb example of an all-in-one family resort in Dubai. You could easily settle in for a week here and still not get bored with the range of entertainment on offer.

A Polynesian-styled resort, families can enjoy the three swimming pools, as well as the Amura Kids Club and extensive beach frontage on the Palm. Kids will love the addition of a slide into the main swimming pool, and there are plenty of flexible room options and villas (some even with private pools) to suit different family sizes.

Dukes The Palm, A Royal Hideaway

This hotel isn’t huge, but it has a few features families will love, not just one of the most incredible infinity pools that look back over to JBR but a meandering lazy river in the shaded gardens. This one won’t break the bank either, so well worth having on your “something special” list for kids in Dubai if the idea of staying at one of the larger resorts doesn’t appeal.

Authorised Tour Operators in Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve is the premier destination for authentic nature-based experiences in the Dubai Emirate.

In order to control the fragile desert ecosystem while still allowing visitors to connect with nature, only a very limited number of tour operators and hospitality companies are permitted within the reserve’s boundaries, and they must operate according to strict guidelines.

You cannot enter the reserve unless you are part of an organised tour group. The currently authorised operators are:

Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve Visitor Centre

A relatively new addition to DDCR is the Visitor Centre. Accessible by standard 2WD vehicles at the entrance to the park, you can find it here:

The DDCR Visitor Centre welcomes you to learn more about the indigenous fauna and flora of the Reserve and how they are working to protect the fragile ecosystem of the UAE’s first National Park.

You are guided through interactive displays and audio presentations. Children will enjoy the interactive Arabian Hare guiding their journey, and there’s plentiful information on the native species, from mammals and reptiles to insects and birds that frequent the reserve.

Finish your journey with views of the reserve from the rooftop deck and refreshments from the on-site Costa coffee shop.

Entry cost

The walk-in entry feee for the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve Visitor Centre is:

• AED 35 adults
• AED 25 kids (5 to 18 years)
• Discounts are available for Emirates Pass holders and Emirates Platinum Cardholders
• Open daily 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Hot Air Ballooning in DDCR

Note that hot air balloon experiences may mention that you visit the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. They may fly over the air space of the DDCR, but in order to protect the fragile ecosystem, they cannot actually take off and land in the protected reserve.

You will find they are most likely using neighbouring farms as the launch point. Here are some bookable online experiences with views over DDCR:

• Balloon flight with breakfast and falconry – (approx 4 hours) City pickups start from 4:30 AM in the hope of getting you up in the air for sunrise and a one-hour journey, including a falconry show from the balloon. After your balloon adventure, enjoy a cold-cuts gourmet breakfast before city return transfers. (Recommend over 5’s)
• Balloon flight only with pick ups – (approx 3-4-hours) starting around 4:30 am for your hotel pick up, its a 45-minute drive out to the launch sites and you’ll get 40-70 minutes in the air, weather dependent.

• You are looking at a cost of approximately AED 1100 for kids and AED 1350 for adults, on a shared basis. If you want complete privacy and seclusion, their packages go all the way to AED 12,950.

When you look for ballooning experiences in Dubai online, most are subsidiary tour companies making the booking and transfers on behalf of the actual balloon company – eg Nice Dubai Tours or Best Dubai Trip (Via Viator)

Hot Air Ballooning in the Dubai desert takes place from mid-September through until the end of May each year. You will not be able to go hot air ballooning in Dubai over the peak of summer.

Do check out some of the other tour providers below that can combine your hot air balloon experience with other overnight and breakfast experiences.

Safari in Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

The licensed operators for daytime and nighttime safaris in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve include Arabian Adventures, Platinum Heritage, Travco and 57 Safari.

Please note that these are NOT your typical dune-bashing desert safari experiences ending in bedouin camp dinner. These are much more sedate affairs with an eco-tourism focus.

Platinum Heritage Safari

The leader in Dubai luxury desert experiences, there’s a high likelihood if the tour is advertised as Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, it is run by Platinum Heritage.

They offer a huge range of desert experiences from morning to evening, as well as camel treks and overnight camping options. Some favourites for day camps that we would highlight include:

• 5-hour morning tour with breakfast (from 7:30 AM) – You will be picked up from your hotel in town and enjoy breakfast at Al Maha as well as an open-top vintage Land Rover nature tour.
• Winter 2023-34, they are advertising a unique Royal Platinum desert dining experience with Michelin-Star Chef Claudio Filippone, involving a six-course fine dining menu (TBC if something similar returning in 2024/25 – see this list of unique desert dining experiences presently being advertised)

Arabian Adventures

Owned by Emirates, Arabian Adventures is one of the premier desert experience providers in Dubai. Some of their advertised desert adventures DO involve traditional dune bashing, whereas other VIP experiences and camel riding experiences are focused on the DDCR.

Several overnight camp providers include a sedate, wildlife focused safari as part of their package – more on these below!

Al Maha A Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa

The most incredible Dubai desert views can be enjoyed from the tranquillity of your own private tent and infinity pool. This is not just any ordinary glamping; this is 5* and more.

Guests can enjoy the privacy of their own room; with only 42 luxury suites on the site, they are well spread out, and your privacy is assured.

Guests can also join in with communal dining at the resort restaurant, indulge in the spa or take a look at the extensive recreation program, which includes nature walks, camel treks, desert safari, horse riding, wildlife drives, archery and falconry displays.

Note that this property is restricted to guests aged ten and over – even more of an excuse for an exclusive romantic retreat in the desert!

Sonara Camp

Sonara Camp, run by Nara, offers evening desert safaris, dinner, and luxury overnight camps. The meeting point for that self-driving is at the DDCR Visitor Centre, or most visitors will use their door-to-door pickup service from the city.

The dinner experience runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and includes a sedate desert drive, an interactive hawk show, camel rides, soft archery, live entertainment, and a fire show. Kids can also enjoy a movie under the stars.

Those staying overnight will return to The Nest, which has unique luxury glamping tents nestled into the dunes. Each tent can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests and has eco-friendly ensuites. Overnight experiences start from AED 2650 per Nest.

They also have adaptions of their program for sunset only and dinner only – enquiries should be made directly with Nara (they’re not to be found on your normal online booking platforms so may have escaped your attention!)

Sand Sherpa – Sherpa Camp

Camps at Sherpa run from September through May and involve a private location set-up with all your camping equipment provided for each family or small group (don’t worry, you won’t be sharing with strangers!)

They are ideal for those who infrequently camp in Dubai or are only passing through the city. You don’t need to purchase expensive camping gear yourself—pretty much everything is provided for you, so all you need to do is enjoy your night under the stars.

Now, they do make an important disclaimer on their website that this is CAMPING not glamping, but with the fully equipped camping trailer including firewood and a cooler, as well as comfortable shower and bathroom facilities, I think you’ll agree with us this is at the luxury camping end of the scale!

After dark, bush meals are prepared while bedding is made ready, and a ranger takes you on a night tour to spot animal tracks. Enjoy your cosy night’s sleep before enjoying breakfast and a chance to meet the birds of prey.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai – Dubai City Layout

Dubai is a long, spread-out city largely based along a 40-kilometre or so stretch of the Arabian Gulf coast.  In recent years, development has very much encroached inland on the desert, and there are more “up and coming areas” than there are food trucks (though that can be a close tie in Dubai).

There is no city centre of Dubai per se, so you should base where you stay around the type of Dubai trip you are after.  Unlike many other cities, a lot of Dubai is not walkable, which makes choosing the best area in Dubai even more essential.

The location you choose as a Dubai visitor can be key to your Dubai experience. While the public transportation network in Dubai is reasonably comprehensive, it largely operates around the strip of Sheikh Zayed Road, which runs through the heart of the city parallel to the coast. You don’t want to spend half your time traipsing across the city, so plan wisely.

We would recommend for tourists on longer stays to get themselves well placed for transport and with relaxation facilities.  If you are on shorter stays, place yourself nearer to the airport.  There is certainly no “one size fits all” experience for Dubai – and yes budget plays a big part

Places to stay in Dubai – Downtown Dubai & Business Bay

Think the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mal, nd all the buildings that sit around these top attractions. You’ll be surrounded by sweeping skyscrapers, the Dubai Opera and all the amenities the Dubai Mall has to offer, from its epic Aquarium to the Olympic-sized ice skating rink, cinemas, KidZania, VR Park, and even the Burj Park nestled in between. Not to mention the nightly light & sound Dubai fountain show that’s wowed visiting crowds for years. 

You are also in good proximity to the airport and the older historic parts of Dubai. The downtown area of Dubai would be our top pick for shorter stays on a reasonable budget who will mostly be out and about exploring and don’t want to spend all their time at the beach.

Pros of staying in Downtown – Incredibly central and convenient to main attractions and the city’s best restaurants, top city bars; easily walkable promenades and Metro connection, all the way through to Dubai International Airport (DXB).

Cons of staying in Downtown – It can seriously dent your budget! Convenience does not come cheap in top tourist areas. You also miss some of the benefits of sunset on the Arabian Gulf coast and the more lively buzz of Dubai Marina & JBR (more below!).

Places to stay in Dubai – Dubai Marina

A man-made marina area sitting to the west of the city, this is another hub of tourist activity. The incredibly picturesque marina surrounded by high-rise towers is home to several of Dubai’s top dining & nightlife options.

Dubai Marina is the departure point for many cruises as well as the Dubai Water Taxi & Dubai Water Bus which can take you to Downtown.

The Dubai Tram also runs from Dubai Marina to Dubai Media City and on the south side of the Marina, you can connect with the Red Metro. 

Pros of staying in Dubai Marina – It really has everything holidaymakers need at hand and great transport connections, close to Dubai Parks & Resorts and Abu Dhabi border, minutes to JBR The Walk & The Beach. Enjoy the beauty of overlooking the marina action and a fabulous nightlife vibe.

The other huge advantage of staying in Dubai Marina is nearly all rooms are hotel apartments meaning you have extra kitchen and washing amenities – great for longer stays. Cons of staying in Dubai Marina – You are quite far from DXB airport and the attractions of Downtown; Depending on what side of the marina, you may still have some considerable walking to do. Cheaper options than Downtown but still costly for tourists on a tight budget.

Places to Stay in Dubai – Jumeirah Beach and JBR

It’s important to note these really are two separate things. “Jumeirah” is often loosely used to refer to pretty much any area along the beachfront of Dubai from Bur Dubai to the northeast all the way down to Dubai Marina.

JBR is short for “Jumeirah Beach Residence,” which sits wedged between the beachfront (aptly named “The Beach”) and the adjacent promenade area “The Walk” to the north and Dubai Marina to the South.  Here, you will find some of Dubai’s best beachside accommodations and hotel apartments perfect for families. Not all may have their own private beach, but you may get beach club access and, almost certainly, some sea views.

As the name might strongly suggest, this is a great area to stay if you are seeking out some sun, beach, water sports and pool time during your time in Dubai whilst still wanting to be well-connected to the rest of the city. It’s arguably the top spot for tourists as the area is walkable and has so much to offer.

Other areas of Jumeirah Beach to look out for as there are plentiful amenities nearby are the Jumeirah chain hotels attached to Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel (attached to Wild Wadi), the ultra-luxurious Burj Al Arab and up and coming La Mer beachfront area to the north, including Pearl Jumeirah & Nikki Beach.

There’s also Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, One&Only Royal Mirage & Four Seasons to name but a few of the luxurious hotels in Jumeirah with their own private beach frontages to consider along Jumeirah Beach. You may find private villa accommodation on AirBnB in this area too.

NB: There isn’t really “budget” when it comes to staying right on the beach. You can certainly get much cheaper hotels along JBR and immediately inland within Dubai Marina if you are happy to compromise on star-rating and facilities. Along the beach, you can bank on a minimum of $100 USD per night starting price – but there are a few hidden highrise shared dorm hostels to consider.

Pros of staying in JBR / Jumeirah Beach – Access to the beach, of course! The unmissable soft white stands and superb sundowner locations all along the coast. JBR has the added

Cons of staying in JBR / Jumeirah Beach – The resorts further along the coast from JBR are not really walkable to anything. Some will offer complimentary shuttle services to attractions such as Mall of the Emirates, but you’re otherwise a little “trapped in”. You’re also some distance from the airport.

Places to Stay in Dubai – The Palm Jumeirah

Now let’s clarify any name confusion again; the Palm Jumeirah very specifically refers to the manmade peninsular that juts into the Persian Gulf from Jumeirah. It is bathed in luxury housing and apartments and a plethora of luxury resorts. You really need to take a helicopter ride or skydive to take in just how vast this offshore development is!

This is your ideal serene resort break where you may not even want to leave your hotel! All the resorts are frankly incredible, world-class quality, it’ll simply come down to your individual budget as it’s nearly all 5-star hotels, though some budget and mid-range options are opening up along Palm West Beach.

As per Jumeirah Beach, you won’t really get “budget” but we’ve picked out the best value luxury choices.

Pros of staying on Palm Jumeirah – A stunning taste of Dubai luxury, ample outdoor activities and amazing sunsets over the Arabian Gulf to be enjoyed.

Cons of staying on Palm Jumeirah – The price tag will put most average travellers off staying on the Palm. You’re also quite far from the airport – and almost everything else in Dubai! There’s only one road on and off the Palm, so expect lots of taxis/transfers and long commutes if you want to sightsee or get back to DXB Airport.

Places to stay in Dubai – Bur Dubai

Often referred to as “Old Dubai” or historical Dubai, this is where you will find the city’s oldest buildings, including the Dubai Museum, the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and the more modern additions of Al Seef and Al Jaddaf, as well as the large parklands that surround Dubai Creek.

While some would argue you get a much more authentic Dubai experience here, others will complain that the hotels are a bit more run down – “old” in Dubai terms can simply mean the hotel has been there since the 1990s!  It is still one of the best areas to stay in Dubai.

There is a real mixed bag of accommodation in Bur Dubai these days as newer developments are bringing new brand-name hotels to the area, but in traditional Arabic styling to blend into the redeveloped areas of the city. You will find bargain basement digs, too, for those on an absolute shoestring budget.

(NB the area we’re describing,”Bur Dubai” means Mainland Dubai – we have encapsulated Al Karama, Oud Metha, Al Seef, Al Jaddaf through to Zabeel and the start of Sheikh Zayed Road highrises)

Pros of staying in Bur Dubai – Undoubtedly, it’s the corner of the city where 5-star luxury comes without the humongous price tag, and you can enjoy some great rooftop views back to Bur Dubai.

It’s an excellent choice for apartment-style accommodation and positioning yourself well; you can be less than 10 minutes to the Metro, which takes you to Downtown Dubai in minutes.  For convenience, you are also only 10 to 15 minutes away from the airport.  There’s a lot to love about “Old Dubai”!

Cons of staying in Bur Dubai– accommodation can be dated, so choose wisely. Newer hotels are great but can push up the cost of those around them, so maybe not always the bargain, are expect.

Places to stay in Dubai – Deira

Just across the creek from Bur Dubai on the eastern bank you will find another of Dubai’s older neighbourhoods and home to the city’s famous gold and spice souks.

Providing good transport links, you are close to Downtown still with the Red Metro connection, really near to the airport – making it a favourite location with long layover passengers for DXB and you are only moments away from neighbouring Emirate Sharjah.

Not everything in Deira is old and cheap – there are many luxury hotels and even a golf course to be found along Dubai Creek with unrivalled views of the city and incredible boardwalk restaurants along the waterfront to enjoy. However, like Bur Dubai, these luxury hotels are often at a fraction of the cost for what you get compared to Downtown.

Pros of staying in Deira – You are close the city and cheaper than many other locations; Deira is also a favourite area for foodies and cheap eats as well as bargain hunters.

Cons of staying in Deira – Many hotel choices are dated. It can be a noisier area of the city at night with traffic congestion.

Places to Stay in Dubai – Al Quoz & Al Barsha

Set back from the beachfront you will find Al Barsha – best described as the area surrounding the Mall of the Emirates, Al Quoz is one of the city’s up and coming areas best known as the city’s art and cultural district.

In between the often-industrial feel from the outside, there are hidden gems designer cafes and fitness studios mixed in with skate parks. Enjoy the Alserkal Avenue Arts District, Brekkie at Tom & Serg;  It’s definitely an area to keep your eye on for experiencing a newer side of Dubai.

Al Barsha is the area of the city you’ll find the Mall of the Emirates, famed for its indoor ski slope but also home to a huge number of fashion outlets making it a shopper’s paradise. You’ll find some hotels are attached to the Mall whilst others sit a block or so away

Pros of staying in Al Qouz/Al Barsha – Good value for money and good-sized rooms close to transport connections (many next to Mashreq Metro).

Cons of staying in Al Quoz/Al Barsha – It’s a little bit no-man’s land. Most of the budget accommodation is not easy walking distance to Metro or nearby attractions. Some areas are quite new and still lack the character of the older areas of Dubai nearer to the Creek

Places to Stay in Dubai – the Desert & Beyond

Beyond the city of Dubai, when the skyscrapers end, and the endless housing estates slowly peter out, there’s an awful lot of sand!  There are a few small townships beyond the city and into the mountains (yes, the United Arab Emirates has mountains!), such as Hatta, but no other big towns within the Dubai Emirate.

So now we’ve got you geographically sorted in Dubai, let’s start to look at particular traveller types and which areas and accommodation choices might suit you best.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Business Travellers

If you are here for a conference or going to the World Trade Centre, there are many hotels that line the first section of Sheikh Zayed Road, near the World Trade Centre roundabout (only around 10 – 15 minutes to DXB Airport).

Be mindful that while things may look close on the map, there’s a rather large road to cross if you stay on the northern side, and one-way systems make navigating even this small area of the city in a taxi challenging.

The most convenient options sit on the south side of SZR and have immediate Metro access to Dubai International Airport and the famous landmarks of Downtown.

Within the heart of DIFC – the financial district – you will find plenty of large brand-name hotels and some very modern and breath-taking accommodation choices with spacious rooms. There are also plentiful apartments and Airbnb-style options if you’re staying longer on a business trip.

 Some of the best hotels for business travellers to Dubai include:

• Budget – Ibis One Central – 2-star business accommodation done right. Honestly, if you just need a place for your head and the convenience of WTC and into the city by Metro, this is a superb value option in the centre of the action, clean, easy, and convenient.
• Mid-range – Gevora Hotel – nothing quite like bragging rights you stayed in the world’s tallest hotel, overlooking the world’s tallest building, right? A great value 4-star option in between WTC and Downtown.
• Luxury – The Ritz-Carlton DIFC in the heart of the financial district, just one stop from the Dubai Mall and plentiful dining and relaxation amenities on site.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Short Stopovers

Just because you are only on a short stopover (we are talking less than 48 hours), don’t feel you need to be restricted just to the areas closest to the airport. 

On all but the worst traffic days (i.e. public holidays when everyone is trying to get to the airport – you can see when they fall here), you should be fine to base yourself anywhere in the city and rely on the Metro or taxies to get around.

We would lean towards staying in Bur Dubai/Downtown area for a short stopover rather than the beach – simply for the convenience of fitting in more sightseeing and getting a good mix of old and new Dubai; save Dubai Marina/JBR area for a longer vacation.

Some options we recommend you try to mix a little relaxation and leg stretching between flights:

If you do want ultra-close to the airport through you can’t sniff at Le Meridien – far more than just a conference centre hotel they have a great range of dining choices and recreation facilities, making it a perfect place to stretch out and relax between long flights or base yourself before an early start, you are only 3 minutes drive back to terminal 3.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Family Vacations

If you are here for a longer stay vacation with a family or larger group, we recommend Dubai Marian or JBR as your top pick – or Palm Jumeirah if the budget will permit for a resort holiday:

There are several choices when it comes to theme parks, with the advantage being if you stay at an onsite hotel, your hotel price can be packaged with attraction tickets.  Our “top 3” in this category are:

Where to Stay in Dubai on a Budget

Budget and Dubai don’t often sit comfortably hand in hand – and many travellers have different interpretations of what budget means! We’ll put it this way – Dubai, on the whole, is not a great value budget backpacker city.

Yes, you can find much cheaper options, and even hostels, which may come as a surprise to many, albeit this is still a developing area of the tourism market and quality is hugely variable.

The key, as most budget travellers know, is to seek out what’s important to you and do your research thoroughly.  Will you take the convenience of location over the size of your room and facilities? Or would you rather have a little extra personal space and stay further out of town, saving your budget for meals and attractions? 

Just be careful in Dubai you don’t stay too far out and all your budget then goes on transport. A slightly more expensive but central choice may be your answer.

Where to seek our good value accommodation in Dubai

A surprisingly good value chain to keep your eye out for is Rove Hotels in some great locations including near the airport, Downtown – minutes from the Dubai mall, Dubai Marina, and newly opened Dubai Parks & Resorts.

Also, look into some of the newer areas, Al Jaddaf is part of Bur Dubai and up-and-coming area where you will find brand new hotels at very reasonable prices near the Green Metro.

On the opposite side of the city as you drive towards Abu Dhabi and after the Dubai Marina area is Ibn Battuta. You can find some better value properties here than in Dubai Marina – albeit the atmosphere is not the same but a short Metro ride home after a night out. This part of town would also be a good budget choice during Expo 2020.

When it comes to what you actually get in Dubai for “Budget” you may be really pleasantly surprised to find most will include breakfast, Wi-Fi and even access to pools and fitness centres in their price.  It depends on how many you want to share your room with!

Getting Around in Dubai – Why it’s So Important For Where to Stay in Dubai

So we mentioned at the outset not many areas of the city are easily walkable. It’s simply not the way the city grew from the Creekside and west.  With vast swathes of land, development has occurred across the city in large and distinct blocks with huge areas in between.

Newer developments in the last couple of decades see a much better set up with tourists and pedestrian access front of mind – primarily we’re talking about Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina/JBR – hence why these are popular areas to stay.

Anywhere else in the city, due largely to the heat – not to mention the lack of footpaths or a foreseeable way to cross huge 8-lane roads – you are best catching a public taxi or Uber to get around, even for short hops. This can add time and money to your trip to Dubai.

Staying anywhere with a Metro station in walking distance most definitely helps, but even a Metro crossing point over the highway can take several minutes to navigate!   The city really is big, which is why we can’t emphasise enough choosing a location for its convenience above all else. The rest of your itinerary will fall into place around this.

Other Factors to Be Aware of When Booking Dubai Accommodation

• Beware of extra charges and taxes. Whilst VAT of 5% is supposed to be inclusive, many will quote it separately, as well as municipality tax, tourism fee and service charges.  You can see our complete guide to Dubai Tourism Taxes here.
• Some hotels in Dubai are dry – i.e. there’s no mini bar or onsite alcohol service in the bars/restaurants. If this is important to you, please check this before booking.

Hatta Dome Park

A newer addition to the Hatta glamping lineup is 15 dome-shaped luxury tents, perfect for a family of four. The dome tents come with 40 square metres of accommodation space and include outdoor space for a private barbecue and a fire pit.

The 46th-floor high pool at Taj Jumeirah Lakes Towers is undoubtedly one of the best swimming pools in Dubai. It looks over Dubai Marina and is surrounded by the stunning Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai skyline.

One&Only The Palm Dubai

If you are looking for a large urban rooftop pool in Dubai, The Address Dubai Marina houses one of the largest you will find. Measuring in at about 45 meters in length and width, the 4th-floor rooftop pool is simply breathtaking.

Swimmers and rooftop relaxers are treated to stunning and expansive views of the city, thanks to this Dubai pool with a view. The Address also has a pool dedicated to kids. Sofitel Dubai Downtown

Sofitel Dubai Downtown has a large and luxurious infinity pool. Sofitel gives their poolside guests amazing views of the city, especially of the magnificent Burj Khalifa.

The attention to luxury is evident, and the terrace is stunningly decorated and set up to make poolside guests feel at home. Simulating an island experience, palm trees surround the pool; making this infinity pool in Dubai seem like an oasis in the sky.

Beside the pool, the rooftop hosts an excellent bar called The Mosaic Pool Lounge, offering a menu packed with all the favourites, ideal for a coffee or refreshing drink during the day or a cocktail to start the night while enjoying the bustling view of Downtown Dubai.

Address Sky View

The spectacular new Address Sky View hotel opened in 2020, boasting one of the best-unreviled views of the Burj Khalifa from its rooftop pool on the 54th-floor Sky Deck.

A sky bridge connects two highrise towers, housing the highest infinity pool in Dubai. Due to its exclusive location, the pool itself is not huge, and space is limited. However, there are two other pools within the hotel for guests to enjoy. Cabanas on the rooftop can be hired for 1000 AED (500 AED redeemable on F&B), fitting up to four guests.

Park Regis Kris Kin

Although the Park Regis Kris Kin is located north of downtown, in one of Dubai’s older areas, it is still known to have one of the best hotel pools Dubai has to offer. The Park Regis Kris Kin is a gem of a five-star hotel, and its rooftop offers spectacular views of downtown Dubai’s skyline.

When the weather is clear, you can see all the way from the rooftop to the Burj Al Arab and the Dubai Marina. Only guests of the hotel have access to this rooftop pool in Dubai.

InterContinental Dubai Festival City

The rooftop of the fantastic Intercontinental Dubai Festival City Hotel is home to one of the most unique pools in Dubai. The temperature of the pool is kept perfectly regulated, giving it a refreshing temperature at all times. The pool also has a glass tank section that extends off the side of the building.

Once you go in there, you may feel like you are swimming in the sky and are in danger of falling to the streets below. This feeling can be super-exciting or extremely terrifying. If you are not inside the pool, you can still get amazing views from the rooftop, especially of the boats that go past the hotel below.

This hotel is in a great location close to DXB airport if you only have a short stopover in Dubai.

Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach

The rooftop pool at Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach is arguably the coolest infinity pool Dubai has to offer. The poolside features super comfy bean bags, and pool chairs are shaded by palm trees. Not only do guests get excellent poolside service, but they also get the breathtaking views that come from being so high up in the city. All you need to do is look and see the beautiful Arabian Gulf.

As with many other rooftop pools, access is only given to guests of the hotel. However, the Infiniti Pool Lounge is open to the public and serves delicious finger foods and cocktails, along with shisha.

Dukes The Palm, A Royal Hideaway Hotel

One of the most iconic views of Dubai’s JBR skyline can be found at Duke’s the Palm. An unassuming hotel from the outside – much smaller than many of its resort counterparts on the Palm Jumeirah – sits at the top of the ‘trunk’ of the Palm. The highrise hotel gives away to gardens and grandeur with a large infinity pool offering utterly instagrammable moments

An elusive few deck chairs have a prime spot on their own island in the centre of Duke’s infinity pool, or younger guests will enjoy the hidden lazy river in the resort gardens of this quintessentially modern-British-styled hotel.

Bab Al Shams, Al Qudra

Situated approximately 50km outside of the city, Bab Al Shams offers one of Dubai’s truly unique experiences with a stunning infinity pool overlooking the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. With Arabic styling throughout, this is truly one of our favourite unique pools to experience in Dubai.

The resort offers day passes and a Friday brunch in addition to overnight stays (so mid-week is much quieter if you want to avoid the crowds). Your stay can be combined with many outdoor adventure activities, including jeep and camel rides for a fun afternoon out in the desert before retreating to shimmering sunset views.

FIVE Jumeirah Village

Only opening in September 2019, FIVE Jumeirah Village (sister hotel to popular clubbing hotel FIVE Palm Jumeirah) became an instant hit on the party scene, mainly because of the fact this circular high-rise hotel has – wait for it – 269 private swimming pools!

No longer a luxury reserved just for the penthouse suite, FIVE offers one-bedroom suites with terrace jacuzzis through to two and four-bedroom apartment options with private swimming pools. And unlike many of their villa-style counterparts, FIVE Jumeirah Village comes in at a more manageable price range for that special treat.

A real surprise sitting in Media City area of Dubai, there are a limited number of apartments within this modest hotel boasting private terrace pools with spectacular sea views. This is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking to be close to both JBR and the Dubai Marina with apartment-style accommodations, including a kitchenette which can be a real winner for longer stays with the family.
